hey guys,

already a owner of a S&W sd40ve. Its my home defense piece. But now I'm bout to make a purchase for my concealed piece (the 40 full size is way to big for concealing comfortably). Was looking at a bunch of compact/subcompact 9mm. Pretty much narrowed it down to the Glock 26 G4 or the Sig P250 subcompact. Any thoughts, comments, and suggestions would be much appreciated.

Also how does everyone like the "safe action" trigger that Glock uses?

How do you plan to carry?

What things are important to you for the carry role?

Have you considered the M&P Shield and the Kahr PM9/CM9?

not positive on what you mean by "how im going to carry". I will be carrying using a inside hip holster more than likely.

most important is reliability, accuracy, and i guess quickness of being able to get locked, loaded, and aimed.

Yeah i've looked into the shield. Definitely a nice gun and was catching my attention (especially with lower price tag). But I already have a SW and I was looking to go with something else. But what pros do you see in the Shield over the 2 I'm thinking of.

I have nothing bad to say about the Sig P250.

The Glock 26 is an OK gun. I think the Shield was designed from the start to be a very compact and slim CCW firearm. The Glock 26 IMO is just a cut down version of the G19.

The G26 is bit over 6.30" OAL (the slide is 6.29" long) the G26 is very short - 4.17" tall. The M&P Shield is 6.1" OAL and 4.6" tall

The G26 weighs 19.75 and the Shield weighs 19 oz even.

The Shield is slimmer at .95" while the G26 1.18" wide.

The width of the Shield is much thinner than the G26 and doesn't tend to stick out near as much when carried under a cover garment. Haven't shot the Shield in .40 but the recoil of the 9mm is very controlable for such a light gun. The Shield with the 8 round mag gives you a full grip on the gun which I prefer and is why I carry a G19 instead of a G26.

If the Shield doesn't do anything for you, you might want to take a look at the Walther PPS. It is a good, slim carry gun too. Something else a little different. The Shield has a better trigger though.

Get the G26. The 250 is not as reliable, FBI testing
, its DA only. Here is another thing, its your only carry gun, Glocks parts are available anywhere and you can do all the work yourself replacing a broken part with the aid of a youtube video. It really is that easy. A 250 you are much more likely to have to send it off to be fixed leaving you unarmed.

I "selling" my G26 to my son and replacing it with a Ruger SR9c. The Ruger is somewhat thinner, has a much better trigger, has proven to be accurate and reliable and it cost me $101 less out the door compared to the Gen3 26. Frankly I never thought I'd ever replace any of my Glocks, but Ruger's SR9 and SR9c are making that happen.

I would say magazines for the SR9c are ever so slightly more expensive, but changing market conditions would make me a liar for sure.

Since my belief is the only real safety is between your ears, Glock (and Glock-like) triggers are fine for me. None of my single action or double action revolvers have mechanical safeties, and I cut my teeth on them starting in 1967. Got my first Glock in 1991 (Model 20) and immediately felt comfortable with the "safe action" concept.

Thank you guys for all the great info and help. Will take another serious look at the Shield since I'm hearing good things. But there is 2 things I'm feeling on the gen4 glock, one the safe action trigger and glock reliability, and two is the new double spring setup they have that reduces recoil and improves life longevity of internal mechanisms

I am a "Glock guy," and the G26 Gen4 is my EDC. No complaints here.

That said, if you already own (and like) a S&W, and you're looking for a G26 sized alternative, then have a look at the S&W M&P9c. It's the only subcompact on the market that I like better than my Glock (just not "better enough" to make the switch).

I seriously doubt you'll wear out a 26. Even if you do, the parts that wear are cheap and easy to replace. I have tried soooo hard not to be a hardcore Glock fanboi, but i have never had as issue with the three i have owned.

My 26 isin with me daily. Most reliable pistol I have ever owned, and would be the last pistol i would part with.

Glock 26 is probably the finest concealed carry gun going. Depending on your size, you might be able to carry a Glock 19.

Don't let anyone scare you about the P250. I own one, and I'd trust my life to it. When the P250 first came out, it definitely had some teething issues. Now, it's a champ. Sig improved it. Then 'new' P250 is often times referred to as the Gen 2 P250.
