Does anyone else lose sleep or daydream as a result of an overactive mind constantly cranking about guns and tac gear? I'm constantly trying to work things out in my head about my next acquisition or project gun, etc. Another member who I have befriended is this way as well.

Supposedly guys my age think about sex once every 15 seconds or so. I think I think about whichever project I'm working on, whether it be firearms, music, photography, etc.

I know, I'm a gun-dork :( I should probably talk to girls more. Does anyone else also suffer from this?

*sigh*

You are making me admit embarassing information in front of thousand of people. But we're all family here, right? Anyway, one day I was working at my crappy job at Dining Services. I was a dishwasher there, which isn't a real intellectual job, so I was usually thinking about something else while I worked. And I couldn't get a certain girl that I had met off my mind. I had a really bad crush on her at the time (sort of still do) and so I wasn't to unhappy to be thinking about her. But I was annoyed I couldn't even change the subject inside my own head. I tried thinking about everything I could think of. Still kept coming back to her. Then I started listing off all the guns I want to buy some day. For the entire rest of my shift I did not think about her once. Guns occupied my brain completely. So, yeah, you aren't the only one.

Gun-dork II signing off...

All the time. My wife was talking about curtains the other day, as I was thumbing through a Shotgun News. I realized that she had stopped talking and walked away for about 5 minutes when she called me from upstairs and said, "Are you going to help me with this?"

I apparently had agreed to hang curtains while I was in a scheutzen-induced fog. I don't remember acknowledging the curtains, either. That's playing dirty.

I also get annoyed at work when people ask me questions that aren't related to firearms in one way or another.

Mmmmmmm......surplus gear.....teflon.....pre-ban......extended magazine...

How long was I out for?

Losing sleep over guns and gear...

When I had a big tournament I had butterflies the night before. I"ve lost sleep when guns and gear were stolen. I was more concerned about my performance and skills than the actual guns and gear. 90% is mental, the other 10% was the physical stuff. I've pretty much stayed with the same platforms and calibers all these years.

Now I admit, I never really learned about blackpowder, this has my interest , some day perhaps. I have what I need, I have some wants, but my current needs are covered.

What am I considering for my next purchase? Gonna keep my eyes /ears open for a old used single shot 22 rifle, an older Rem. Win. or the like. Blue and Wood of course...something about simple and classic...fun factor a given.

I have other priorties right now. Girls...well at my age they are called ladies. Been married, been divorced. I have lady friends that are just that friends. Might be a classmate, or just an old friend that I attend a theatre performance with, go out to eat, head to the range...whatever.

It is nice to get to a point in life where one really does not want to go through some "life stuff" again. You could not pay me enough to go through my 20's again....or a lot of my 30's for that matter. I could stay at 48 and probably be content for the rest of my years...but I guess I best continue the journey...that's the best part - the journey, not the destination. Heck I just gotta see what is around the next bend.

Might be a old K frame, 1911 style, or pump gun that turns up next...I don't lose sleep, but I do like surprises.

People count sheep to fall asleep. I mentally prioritize which guns to purchase next. It's really pathetic. By the way -- I'm at work now. Does THAT answer your question?

I don't daydream about guns anymore since I bought my SPAS 12.

Now I just go to about every pawnshop in town until I find a gem. It's like bar hopping without the hangover.

Then I ogle my prize, make any repairs clean it up and go shooting.

That takes care of the evil daydreams.

I don't lose sleep but my mind is constantly thinking firearms like some obsessive compulsive disorder.

gun geek #3 signing in..

I've always been a general purpose dork/geek with obsessive compulsive tendencies, but it wasn't until after I had graduated from school had been working and married for a few years that I slowly transformed into a gun-specific geek. As I kid I can remember playing with toy guns, air guns, and making sling shots with my cousins and friends, but as a teenager and college/graduate student, I wasn't really that interested or involved with shooting. I was very interested in other stuff (mostly girls, school, and hiking/riding bikes). I also became very interested in computers/programming in college, but I think that once I actually got a job working with computers, I quickly got tired of digital technlogy.

When my wife and I moved to our current home, I discovered that there was a shooting range within a few miles from our home. I bought a .22 and started shooting, and I've become more-or-less obsessed with shooting. Beav's description of him thinking about guns all the time like an obsessive compulsive disorder could also be applied to me as well.

I think in my case, because I don't get to shoot enough due to other committments (family, work, etc.) I compensate and get my gun-fix by reading THR or thinking about project guns, my next gun-related acquisition, etc.. I think that if I actually had the opportunity to shoot regularly and a lot I would be less gun-obsessed. I'm currently trying to curb my obsession and channel my energy elsewhere (but I haven't succeeded yet).

Be careful Skunk - shooting and related activities are lots of fun (i.e., addictive), but make sure you lead a balanced life in addition to a well-prepared, tactical one!

Only when I have to sell something to buy something. That's sheer torment for me. They are all my favorites...but one will become less of a favorite than my newest favorite. Hmmm....sounds like a good theme for a reality show... "The Gun Nut".

I'm a gun geek, too.

It's gotten so bad whenever I buy a gun, or a pair of boots, or a flashlight, or a knife, I have to comb the forums at THR, BladeForums, CandlePowerForums, etc. to find the best "gear" for the application. I spend time looking at spec sheets for knife steels, ballistics tables, and catalogs, dreaming of the ultimate in tactical and practical.

Before, when I wanted a flashlight, I just bought a crappy D-cell from a local convenience store. Now, I have to post on THR, compare run times and lumens, and weigh the benefits of a "strike bezel" versus a normal bezel.

Somebody help me. :)

You guys need to get marry and have kids....

Then you will know what loosing sleep really mean. LOL.

No, I will not admit I have a problem because I don't want to cure it.

Rarely does a day go by that I'm not on some webpage looking at guns, gun accesories, match scheduals, results, flashlights, etc.

Guns are all I ever really think about. Yes, I'm obsessed, and I know it.

Every once in a while it gets bad enough that I either can't sleep because all I can think about is firearms and accessories, or I do sleep and dream about guns. Either one is bad enough.

I guess I'm just too materialistic.

I don't usually obsess about guns during the day unless I'm planning an upcoming purchase -- then it can get bad. All the decisions that go into making sure I get what I really want, the best thing for the application, etc...

My current "do I get a .30-30 and install a ghost ring and Aimpoint, go with a 7.62X39 bolt gun with good iron sights, or opt instead for the .308 even if it means I have to rely on optics?" dilemma has been driving me absolutely crazy. "Okay, I really like lever guns and .30-30 works well for dear within its range and could suffice as a serious defensive weapon but ammo sure aint cheap, the 7.62X39 is about equal to .30-30 ballistics but I can get cheap practice ammo and the CZ has decent open sights or there's that other one built on an Enfield action, oh but a .308 bolt gun would give me more distance and power in case hunting becomes more of a concern and that ProHunter Mountain looks pretty handy, not sure if the sights are great but I can mount a good optic for primary plus surplus ammo is reasonable, but lever guns are really cool and it would look great next to my 1894C, no -- .30-30 ammo is too expense... but I could start reloading! I won't need to reload if I go with the CZ Carbine... AAAAHHHHHHH!!!!"

I'll admit that I do.

While driving to school in Fullerton I was debating whether to get a Winchester Stealth II or a Remington PSS

While in Marketing class I was daydreaming whether to get the rifle in .308 in 30-06.

I only wrote a page full of notes that class session because I copied definitions from the book to make my class session more noteworthy.

Lecture whaaa? :D

Before, when I wanted a flashlight, I just bought a crappy D-cell from a local convenience store. Now, I have to post on THR, compare run times and lumens, and weigh the benefits of a "strike bezel" versus a normal bezel.

This is a really true statement, on a lot of topics...then again, I'm bull headed so I listen to what everyone has to say and go with my original decision anyway.

Anyone ever have their wife comment that you love your guns more than them...?
Soon-to-be-ex-wife, yes.

I'm pretty obsessed. I even made a website (that's what I do for a living) where I organized all the guns I'm considering, and catalogued the guns I own. I have one page that has my "top three" wish list. About every two weeks I do a 'screen shot' of the list, and put them in a separate file. Looking over them, I can review my personal madness as I see that most of the guns come and go from my list without my ever buying them.

I work hard, I pay my taxes, I carry no debt, and I have no children... so, no harm no foul.

I don't think I'm obsessed about guns or gear. I don't even think about guns/gear most of the day. Of course you wouldn't be able to tell that from looking at my internet favorite/bookmarks or posting habits. :D

<------- In massive denial
