Losing Sleep Over Guns & Tac Gear

I feel your pain...

LoL twoblink, I love your signature. The middle part sounds just like me and probably half of us who post here.

Except for the first part, I'm still in the "Windoze" stage of evolution. :)

Windows 2000 in fact.

My work computer is a Compaq/HP monstrosity and has XP.

The horror!

Ok, it works well enough and it's quiet....I'm not complaining. Too bad I have to do tech support for the rest of the office on these P.O.S. computers.

In my early years of firearm ownership I lost lots of sleep over what to buy next. With little money, I ended up trading for guns and couldn't afford (or justify to my wife) to have more than two handguns and a couple of rifles. To make matters worse it was the mid 1980s, the dawn of the double-action era when new and interesting pistols were coming onto the market all the time. I clearly remember lying in bed with my mind racing over details of the SIG/Sauer 220, Beretta 92, S&W 669, Steyr GB, and such. The next month it would be past midnight and I was awake teasing out the merits of Colt Government Models, Commanders, and Combat Commaders. Then it the obsession was to get an HK 91 or HK 93. More than once, my wife would sense my being awake and correctly guess aloud "Are you thinking about guns?"

Once I had enough firearms to cover the spectrum of "needs", I sometimes missed that kind of fevered wishing in later years. It has been renewed, however, over the past couple of years while choosing what suppressors to buy and what guns will be best to host them. I now recognize the pleasure to be had in the agitated fretting over what gun to get next.

Well, I don't obsess over gun gear but I do think about gun customization quite a bit. I am always looking at pistols and revolvers and imagining how they would look with longer/shorter barrels, lights, scopes, lasers, different finishes, "melting", grips and polishing. Lately I have been polishing and sanding the hell out of my ParaOrd P14 at night, while watching TV, and have noticied that I sort of tune everything else out as I work. This polishing is done by hand and time seems to fliy when I am doing it. I am going for a master polish/mirror finish and it takes a lot of time to get everything just perfect. The other night I started at around 9pm and when I looked up again... it was after 3am! I am also trying to work out the kinks of designing a quad-barelled shotgun mount that will use two SXS Baikal 12 gauges and also an adapter that could allow a guy to mount a MAC-9 or 10 under a FAL handguard. There are no good reasons for these things to be built, but I still want to make them. I think about and sketch these sort of ideas constantly.

Skunk,

I'm a little bit older than you. Married for 15 years. Have a 4 year old and a 1 year old. I still think about sex once every 15 seconds. I think about guns in between.

You can do both. You don't have a problem until the guns take away from your time thinking about sex. If you are not thinking about sex for more than 30 minutes, put down the Blackhawk Catalog, get in the Crisis Response vehicle and go find a girl.
