Got a question for you duck hunters out there.

I want to take my step father duck hunting somewhere down in Louisiana this fall. He introduced me to hunting when I was a kid and he hasnt hunted for years since 1983. He even went as far as giving me his 10 guage dbl barrel shotgun he used to cherrish.

I want to some how pay him back and say thanks for introducing me to hunting and I thought a guided 3 day duck hunt would be nice. He lives in Florida now and is in his late 50's so he's not a big fan of sitting in 10 degree weather like we used to up in Ohio.

Anyone have any suggestions of an outfitter that is decent for this type of trip. I'm looking to stay at the lodge, hunt and hang out with him so staying in a hotel wouldnt be what I would want.

Thanks in advance.

I only have this bit of advice to you as a prospective hunter of ducks in LA.

DON’T UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BE IN THE BACK OF THE COW HIDE!!!!!!! :what: :D :p

Ask if you don't know why.....

Refers to the ONLY two Cajuns in all of LA who didn’t know how to hunt ducks, OH they could poach ducks by the boat full but couldn’t hunt them worth a lick. They tried every thing they could think of to get the huge raft that came into the local lake to decoy to them, they tried all kinds of sneaks only to see the ducks liftoff in a great roar of wings. They had just about decided to go back to poaching when the “smarter” of the two noticed the cows. He turned to his partner and said “I just figured it out, how we gone to get them ducks. See those cows? Them ducks don’t pay no mind to them cows, We gonna get them ducks come tomorrow morning.”
In the dark the next morning this odd looking “two hump cow” could be seen to be moving from grass patch to grass patch getting ever closer to the ducks. Just as the “cow” gets to with in easy shooting range the back hump says in a loud whisper; “T’Ba I need to told you something, T’BA I NEED TO TOLD YOU SOMETHING”. Shut you mouth Lewis and shoot them ducks. Hell with them ducks T’Ba here comes the BULL.
So like I said, “DON’T UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BE IN THE BACK OF THE COW HIDE!!!!!!! :D :D

I'm not sure how early you have to book this sort of thing (I usually hunt at a friend's private camp), but before you spend the money I'd try calling around and see if there are any ducks. It's been somewhat slow the past couple years.

A lot of the bayou folk blame ducks unlimited for building habitats farther north and encouraging the ducks not to keep flying south.

It isn't Louisianna, but we have some nice duck hunting in TX also. You could check with Al Schimek at the Pintail Hunting Club (Fly into Houston then drive about an hour West). I hunted with them several times (from Early Teal to Goose), and they are a class outfit. http://www.pintailhuntingclub.com
They might have a 4 person minimum, but it couldn't hurt to call and talk to 'em.

I'll check into the Texas hunt.

I guess it doesnt have to be limited to LA.

With me living in Az and my step father in FLA, I thought somewhere in the middle would be nice.

I am from SW Louisiana. Some of the finest duck hunting in the country can be had there. The areas around Lake Arthur and Gueydan are among the best. Gueydan is known as the duck hunting capitol of the world.

This outfit is in my hometown of Lake Arthur. I know people who have hunted and guided with them. They Always do very well. Here is their contact info:

DOUG'S HUNTING LODGE - Experience warm hospitality and great Cajun food while enjoying some of the nation's finest waterfowl hunting. Klondike, La. Contact Adrienne (800) 888-0960 or (337) 536-7902. Fax (337) 536-7077.

I am not familiar with these folks. They are in the same area and have a website:

Good luck, and it's a great thing you are doing!
