I have the wonderful S&W Shield (9mm), and the very well liked Ruger LC9s. Both are excellent weapons. But when I get right down to which is my ccw and the other my car gun. The Shield is with me all the time. I think it is the better of the two.
My opinion is the Shied is the better built weapon.

I did exactly the opposite. Had both a Shield and a Ruger LC9S Pro. Shot the Ruger better.
Gave the Shield, spare mag, holster, and 4 boxes of ammo to my sister in-law. She likes it.

I looked at the Shield when they first came out but decided I wanted to go even smaller in a 9mm. for CCW and went with a Kahr CM9.

Still the Shield is a great choice and should serve you well for many years to come.

When trying to decide between the Shield and LC9S, I chose the Sig P938 Legion. :D

Joking aside, I bought my last girlfriend an LC9S and I thought the trigger was great. However, the Shield 2.0 wasn't out yet, and even the old Shield just felt more solid than the Ruger.

Either one is a fine choice IMO.

The Sheild / LC9S debate went on for a long time. Especially when the LC9 had the long trigger pull. The Sheild would win the dabates, then the LC9S came out and changed the ballgame. I had all three, got rid of the shield, bought the LC9S, still have the LC9S. Now that gun is no longer a carry gun, trigger just too light. Now have the Nano and the Kahr. The Kahr was just bought and now wonder how I did not own this beautiful sweet shooter long before now.
Love the Nano, but the Kahr is 4 ounces lighter. Both great guns. With both the CW380 and the CM9, another Kahr is in the horizon. S9 or ST9. Still trying to decide.

I tried the LC9 and the Shield, the Shield won out over the Ruger because of the trigger. I didn't really care for the feel of the Ruger either, the Shield just fit my hand better. Carried the Shield for a number of years but a year ago I bought a Kimber Micro 9 and it has become my daily CC. Smaller and lighter and I shoot it as well as I do the Shield. Its great that there is so much variety and choice in carry guns now, no one gun will work for everyone. Until the concealed carry laws became easier the choices were pretty slim, mostly snub nose revolvers.
