Why is it that every pistol-grip-only shotgun being fondled and purchased or shot on the range is being held by some low-life or thug?

Go to Youtube and look at the videos posted by these people...

Sorry if you are a PGO aficionado, but i don't see ANY use for one... want a compact 12ga? get a folding stock... at least you can use it the correct way if you have the room.

I guess I would hesitate to label anyone with a PGO shotgun as a low-life or thug. They just like something different to blast away with. Some of the worst thugs I ever ran across wore $1000 suits and didn't have a PGO shotgun. Likewise some of the nastiest tattoo laden characters turned out to be the best friend you could ask for -- give you the shirt off their back if you needed it. Just different packaging.

I guess high-life thugs, like me don't take our PGO's to the range.
I know, it's not practical, but for home defense, at short range, where confined areas are a consideration, it seemed like a good idea. Plus it's cool.
I've ordered a Knoxx Breechers Grip for mine. I won't be shooting skeet or quail.
I don't want a flintlock or muzzle loader either, but to each his own.

It is not the packaging that counts, it whats inside.

While a stocked shotgun is better, pistol grip shotguns are not totally worthless. They can be very effective at room distance and in very tight places. If you practice you can get good with one.

I've seen Bob Munden on TV shoot aspirins out of the air with a SA 45 colt.

I see your point... maybe I jumped too quickly to a conclusion based upon observation and not interaction. I've just personally seen a high % of PGO owners with their pants below their butts.

Denzel Washington, Training Day. Enough said.

Disclaimer: Plenty of people get one for other reasons, but plenty of people also get them because of that movie.

Guess I am one
Takes training and perfect practice but once you master it, they shoot better then most imagine.

Alright. that's really cool. How did you get the Colt grip on there?

I can no longer shoot long guns(pinched nerve from a broken Collarbone), but can control a PG shotgun just fine. I would also be at first glance generalized into a "low-life" category.

I see your point and while it is valid, I judge people by their character not their looks.

On second thought, If their pants are hanging off their butt, go ahead and pre-judge them.

I lost 4 inches of my waistline in 6 months, and still have to wear most of the same clothes I owned before, food is a higher priority than clothes and I occasionally cant find a belt.

I'm 26 years old - I have a large amount of my body (most of my legs, and getting close to both arms covered by the month) I wear hoodies, baggy pants, and have a mohawk. My fiancee is also heavily tattooed - she's got close to one arm totally inked, and she sports multiple ear piercings as well as a septum piercing ("bull ring" type, to those not familiar with them)

Am I a thug?

(Hint: not even close. I'm a student and soon-to-be small business owner, and she's a court reporter.)

As many have said, what's on the outside means next to nothing. If you're so nearsighted as to be unwilling or unable to get to know a person before condemning them based on appearance alone, I pity you.

And please, don't give me the whole "appearance is everything" chestnut. It's simply untrue. While appearance is indeed important as a measure of one's character, it is far from the only issue.

kingpin, while your point is well-taken, the proof is in the pudding, as to the alleged correlated relationship. Remember he said:

Why is it that every pistol-grip-only shotgun being fondled and purchased or shot on the range is being held by some low-life or thug?

NOT

Why is it that every pistol-grip-only shotgun being fondled and purchased or shot on the range is being held by some dude with lots of tatoos, a mohawk, and wearing a hoodie?

So we must ask, do you, or do you not, have a PGO shotgun?

We've established that you're not a thug (despite appearances). So giving the OP the benefit of the doubt as to his ability to discover the truth value of whether one is a thug or not, without judging a book by its cover, to attempt to anecdotally prove or disprove the theory posited, we need the data. If you don't have a PGO shotgun, then that tends to *support* the man's original theory: No thug = no PGO shotgun and Thug = PGO shotgun. :)

Actually, while I would like you to answer the question for curiosity's sake, I now see that he did say "baggy pants" were/are correlated with his presumption that one is a thug, so your point is valid on that.

But you and oldnamvet:

speak very wisely on the issue. :)

A PGO thread? And it's not even Thursday yet.

As far as judging people by looks, I do it all the time and will continue to do so. And I have tattoos, my brother is a tattoo artist (depressed at that, seems he's run out of skin), my son has multiple tattoos and is just about circus ready with his body mods. None of that changes the fact that if you look like a punk, I'm going to reguard you as a punk until you prove yourself otherwise. To do anything less would be letting down my guard. Not alot of clean cut guys in 3 piece suits are running around jacking folks for their wallets.

I actually prefer the pistol grip
I can shoot either way, but favor the pistol, it feels faster and more manueverable and it also feels like I aim more steady and don't get a crink in my neck

The suits steal in a different way, by computer or paper. White collar criminals are more of a problem and most never do any time in jail.

Never trust a guy in a 3 piece suit.

Never said I trusted them, just not as likely to get smacked in the head by one. Me, I walk around with my tats, shaved head and goatee and I'm sure people are wary of me when I walk past. Doesn't bother me, works in my favor the way I see it.

I had a PGO set up for awhile, not for serious, just for play. Actually got pretty good on pop cans with light bird loads. Then made the mistake of trying some OOO buck. Wrist gave me fits for days afterwards. Took it to the next gunshow and I had to push people away who wanted to buy it. So if you've got an old shotgun that you can't seem to get rid of, slap a PG on it, trim the barrel back and up your asking price by 100 bucks.

I respect your right to do whatever you want to do with your body, now respect my right to think you look like a pot smoking, ex-con, gang-banger, and avoid you at all cost. Sure, I'll miss out on meeting some nice young folks, and I'll miss out on getting wacked also. My loss.

The only people that I have met that I know smoke pot, or in a professional gang, are extremely clean cut, in shape, no tattoo's, dress business and occasionally business casual, and some are leo's and Government Officials.
Most are ex-cons too.

Now the guys that I know that have tattoo's and run around wearing typical "Urban Attire" quite a few of them are in school, with excellent grades, and the Government is paying for their schooling, or own an extremely popular and hip business that cater towards the fashion or service industry, most of them make in a week what most people make in a year, and then there are those that have fought for our freedom, been to a couple of those funerals, actually.

But, Prejudices are just wonderful aren't they? :)

You sound like half the folks in my family :D

Honestly, I think its fairly ignorant to base what a man is on his appearance.
Some of the best guys I know look like they rode with the Hells Angels or something.
Some of the worst have been fine "upstanding" people claiming to be 'christians'.

Myself, Im somewhere in between and always have been and neither extreme bothers me in the least. Ill hang out with the polished suits and Ill hang out with the bikers. As long as both keep their manners up.
:)

Wrong. They do it everyday. They're called politicians.
