Wow, catching muzzle blast is harder than we thought. But here's the best of what a friend and I managed to accomplish!

Fun? Yes...

But keep in mind that much of the muzzle flash is powder burning outside the barrel, where it does absolutely no good when it comes to bullet velocity and performance. It can also leave you with a short case of night blindness, which might or might not be serious, depending on the circumstances.

I've been meaning to try this on a very dark night or they might let you turn out the lights in an indoor range. Put the camera on "B" and open the shutter. Somebody count down and pull the trigger on the gun at about the same time somebody hits the test button on an external flash. You should see the muzzle blast and the gun, and a ghost image of the gun.

Could be cool.

Thats real cool!

My camera has a rapid fire mode. Also might try filming as video and taking still frames from your computer. (Getting ideas) Got a Mosin M44? She'll bark a big ol' fireball.

I was expecting more flash from the cylinder on the revolver. Lefty eh?

Yes, difficult photos without electronic triggers. Thanks for sharing.

So how did you accomphish this?

I shot, another person ran the camera.
"First Curtain" flash and a long exposure (1.5sec) with a wide open aperture.
(Canon D60 on tripod)

Basically I waited for the flash, then pulled the trigger on the guns while the shutter was still open.

You will notice the big flash off to the side of the Ruger. Tis why you don't put your hands there on revolvers and a picture is worth a thousand words.

One of the advantages of country living is being able to shoot off the back porch. even at night. The Mosin carbine is always a big hit, the cz52 (7.62 tokarev) is pretty cool too, or anything with a tracer round.

Cool pictures, i'l have to give that a try.

I had no idea that there were sound activated triggers for cameras. I new about motion sensors not sound. Great pictures by the way.
