Low- to mid-range 1911 battle. The best "pound for pound" (dollar for dollar?)

I would get the entry level sti. The desert eagle 1911 is actually really nice for the price too.

I did want a Ruger SR1911, but now I'm wanting a Remington R1 Carry. Next week who knows ... just depends.

1911

The Elite by S.A.M. (Philippine) is a very good 1911 at a very low price, in my experience. I've owned 3 and you could ask little more from any manufacturer. The one I kept has become one of my favorite 1911's.

I'm going to have to go with a gun I own, the Magnum Research aka "Desert Eagle" 1911. I have around 1400 flawless rounds through it and it has the best trigger from a sub-1k 1911 I've ever felt. They are under $700 NIB.
^ This. I have one of these as well and it's a superior gun for the money. Can't go wrong. Get over the huge rollmark issue and you'll find out it's an outstanding gun. Very accurate, too.

I own a few firearms and recently decided to explore the 1911 world. I bought the Taurus 1911 and find it to be a great gun. Lot of Taurus bashers out there I realize that. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. This 1911 is a lot better for me that the polymer striker fired 45acp I owned for 7 years. I have a number of poly guns and find the XDM to be my favorite. The Taurus 1911 feels good, has great grip checkering, does all of the things I want it to do. Am looking at obtaining a Springfield RO in the future as this gun "speaks to me". The basic 1911 platform is great, there has to be a few reasons that it has been around so long as is used so much. After having been a shooter for the last 40 years I am surprised it took me this long to drink the 1911 koolaide.

The basic ATI 1911 is made by SAM, too. Same gun you're talking about?

I have a Taurus 1911 and I love it. It feels and shoots better than my friends kimber custom II honestly

Got to go with my Llama 1911 with custom trigger and extended slide release. Dead accurate and reliable. The only down side I've had is finding grips I like,; regular 1911 grips won't fit.

Welp, I ended up going with the parkerized Springfield Mil-Spec for $620.

I weighed all the factors - price, features, upgrades, warranty service - and went with the Springfield primarily to have a strong frame and slide to start with, backed by Springfield service.

After lots of in-store handling, I find that I don't really care about a lot of the upgrades on some other guns, and even prefer the "unenhanced" versions in some cases (flat grip safety, non-ambi thumb safety, no front serrations). Some aspects (short vs long trigger, sights), the jury is still out on, so upgrading later would be fine if using the gun reveals a different preference. In the mil-spec's case, at least I get the tall, 3-dot sights cut with good, sharp lines.

I ALMOST went with the Armscor-made Cimarron, as I love its beautiful simplicity and close-to-Browning specs, but the forged frame and lowered/flared ejection port seemed too important to pass up on a gun I expect to keep forever. I would love to try one of those Cimarrons out at some point, though, just to compare.

My low cost 1911 is a RIA tactical 45 I paid $460 for at our general store.
Been as good and as accurate pistol as any other make or model I have.
