Lower and AR-15 Build Questions

Can I get into a GOOD lower with a GOOD trigger for less than $230 complete?

What is a good rear fixed sight?

Also, what rail on the front less than $200 and can be installed easily? I'd like it to cover the handguard band/keeper as much as possible. I've seen a DD one that looks decent.

IF you build, do you usually end up with a DIFFERENT looking finish on your top and bottom units??? I figure a good build would start with a BCM upper, which if I buy the right one would run about $525 complete (upper+BCM).

On the other hand, there are some good deals on complete rifles right now.

You are going to be hard pressed to find a lower, parts kit, and decent trigger for that much. If that price includes the stock assembly then no. A good trigger is going to run you anywhere from $125 to $250 depending on which one you want and if you want adjustable or not.

The A.R.M.S. #40 flip up rear sight is very rugged and is made well. For the price of some lower cost AR-15's you will be better off going with a complete gun and upgrading selected parts later. A lot of guys like the Del Ton guns, as well as the BCM guns.

BCM Complete guns are all over $1000. If I went complete, I would probably go S&W - maybe the MPOE or even the 15T on the CDNN deal.

If the upper can't shoot 1/2 MOA, a trigger won't help at all. Most guns in the price range quoted won't run much under 2MOA, which is military specification. There are competition pistol shooters who have demonstrated light or heavy trigger pulls have no affect on them winning a championship, and they demonstrated it with a 10 pound NY Glock trigger. Don't get wrapped into the myth a target trigger instantly makes you as good as the average 600m competitor. The barrel and handloads have far more influence, but dedicated skill puts it on target, not a credit card.

Most forged lowers are a commodity right now, stick with the better names and there won't be problems. They can be had for less than $75 - sometimes for free if an upper is purchased. Both parts coming from the same maker will have the same finish, but there's no guarantee two different vendors will. It has no affect on function at all, and if they fit tight or loose, no affect on accuracy either - even the Army Marksmanship Unit has said that.

With an adjustable stock, target trigger, big name lower, and some luck, getting a price under $400 would do good. Google is your friend, add it up.
