I have some stripped lowers I want to build up with upgraded parts - problem is they are scarce AND these will be my first builds. I want to do upgrades where possible. Can someone list a detailed parts inventory for a lower kit, and suggested upgrades (trigger, handle, etc.). Much appreciated. If it matters, I have 1 S&W and 2 Sun Devil lowers.

PS - one of these will likely be for a .50 BMG upper.

Thanks for the link - I think there are different levels of quality triggers and such... 'splain to me please who are the better trigger and parts makers.

There are MANY good trigger makers, i love my timney, geisseles are really good, as are RRA NM 2 stage'rs, ect. Chip mccormick and others are good too.

what kind of AR are you building? HP match? 3gun match? plinker? varmint?

for the HD gun,
keep the standard trigger

get a short, sturdy stock like the magpul CTR or MOE

grips are really totally personal preference. i have used several and lean toward the magpul MIAD (see above) for most stuff but occasionally the ambi ergo grip.

don't waste any money on things like anti-walk pins, accu-wedges, etc.

although not "lower parts"
you'll want a good flash suppressor (e.g. vortex) and not a brake. and you'll want a good light. the surefire with vtac mount is a good reasonably priced combo ($54 for surefire light and mount)

for the 50bmg upper, you either want a fixed stock or a collapsible that locks into place and won't collapse when you shoot it (potential scope-eye). the magpul prs would be great for this BUT you want to make sure the raised cheek piece doesn't get in the way. i doubt you're using a CH on a 50 though so that's probably not an issue.

another stock that would be super-sturdy to take a look at is the ace socom

lots of triggers would be appropriate for the 50. i'd probably go with a 2-stage. RRA's are pretty cheap. if you're looking for super-crisp and proportionally pricey, geissele's are in stock in several places.

How are DPMS lower parts kit in quality? Saw two at a gun show for $100 each... They also had another name I didn't recognize for the same price.

Anyone have any idea when lower kits will start becoming available again? I have a couple lowers that need parts and nobody has anything in stock and what you can find is ridiculously over priced, it's really irritating:banghead:

For DPMS $100 is really steep even for panic buying. You can buy from midwayusa.com for $55 or so, if they are out of stock just keep checking and buy once they get them in. I was going to buy a few a while back on sale for $45 they were sold out, checked the next day and was able to get 2. Used both for builds and the quality was great, highly recommend them just not at $100 a piece.
