Since I just scored a Aimpoint M4 I was wondering if anyone knows which of the available mounts is the lowest? I'm not even trying to cowitness so the lowest possible rail mount is what I'm after.

LaRue lists their mount at 1.395" and I'm measuring the stock Aimpoint mount at right around 1.2".

I don't need QD capability as this is going on a AK side rail anyways.

Thanks.

I did some lookin when trying to pick out a red dot for my AK and M1A, and from what I could see the only mounts for the Comp M4 are AR-height mounts. It is not tube-bodied so you can't put it in a 30mm ring like the other Aimpoints. I really like the battery life of the M4 and the fact that it takes AAs, but the fact that you couldn't mount it low enough to get cheek weld and a co-witness on an AK and M1A was a deal breaker for me. I decided to go for an Aimpoint PRO.

If Aimpoint made a tube-bodied version of the M4 I would probably be all over it. I am not really sure why they decided not to.

My assumption is that Aimpoint took data from field failed units and made those parts more robust on the M4. That's why the adjustment caps have guards and the switch is decoupled from the external knob.

I'm thinking that rings are a failure point on the M2/M3 series and they eliminated the ring by using a integral mount, even though it means they have to build the M4 and M4s as separate units.

Yeah, and most of their money on those probably comes from the military contract, so they weren't really worried about it going on anything other than a flat top M4 or M-16. I'm sure the majority of their sights sold to civilians end up going on AR platforms too.

Of the guys I shoot with locally, there are 15-20 AR-15s for any other type of rifle.

Since I just have to be different, I run a AK.
