So, I've been working on my sailboat, doing some recoring of the deck. Needed more weight than I had to join the skin to the new core, and ended up putting my stock of LWC bullets in some plastic bags to keep the project moving. Since this was done in the hot FL sun, the lube has now, shall we say...migrated out of the lube grooves on the bullets.

I've ordered a bottle of Lee Liquid Alox to tumble lube the bullets, but what's the preferred way of getting the old lube out of the way? Boil the bullets in water? Solvent? If so, which? Turpentine, MEK, mineral spirits, etc.

Thanks in advance!

Boiling water will melt it all off, and it will float to the top of the pot.

After it cools off, you can pull it out like a chunk of cold bacon grease.

Yup, put them in a pot of water, heat it to near boiling, turn the heat off and let the pot cool. All the lube will float to the surface and you can even reclaim it if you want.

I had considered the casting idea, but I don't currently have a casting setup. Sounds like for the price of a hot plate and a cheap pot I can get these back in action. Thanks!

You shouldn't need a hot plate.

Just boil some water on the kitchen stove.

Then take it outside and pour it in the pot or can with the bullets in it.

Well, I "could" use the kitchen, but then I'd have to deal with the wife! :D Been needing a hot plate for a couple of other applications out there anyway!

Don't bother.
Just tumble-lube them as-is in the existing plastic bag
using a little more Lee Alox and shoot them.

Yeah, just go to the local goodwill or similar place, pay a dollar or two for a cheap pot and do it on the stove. Then you have a cheapo pot just for stuff like that. I know, I bought one at our local Habitat store for $1.
