i spent a lot of time looking through all calibers and i know these are sub 4" barrels. my top 3 are

9mm golden saber 147gr
9mm golden saber 124+p
9mm federal micro hst 150gr

based on penetration and wound channel, im going with those. some golden sabers in .40 where good too and a good one in 45 but does not blow the 9mm away imo.

Been a while since I looked but iirc 180 Grain HST .40 was a beast too. (For a handgun round)

Frankly I doubt you can go wrong with a Gold Dot or HST bullet in any caliber or loading.

Take at look at Winchester's new Ranger T 45 ACP. Expanded to one inch and excellent penetration. Wow. I also agree that Gold Dot and HST are generally good performers across the board.

Amusingly, it seems HST 147+p performs even more consistently than Federal's HST product that is made and marketed for short barrels

One big problem with LG's study is the don't calibrate the gel, variables like temperature need to be accounted for if you really want to do a meaningful comparison.
