Lyman 50th Edition Reloading Handbook

This month's "Handloader" June 2016, pg 23 has an ad for Lyman's 50th Reloading Manual.
I just checked Lyman's site & there's no mention of it.

I guess we just need to stay tuned in.
 
with the changes in powders, new and discontinued, plus all the coated and plated bullets, i think alot of the manuals could use an update or addendum to their load info
 
There are so many powders on the market that all fit the same niche, any reloading manual that has data on all of them would have to be the size of a public library.

I remember Charles Petty complaining about this situation in one article. Gunwriters get a fixed fee for their articles, about $400 from what I have read, and he wanted to reduce the number of powders he would have to test and for him to do a comprehensive test, he would probably have to spend more on powders than the fee he received for the article.

What I don't know, is how many of the brand names are actually the same powder under a different label. No one in the industry is going to tell us that because it will cut into sales.

As you stated the "June" issue has that ad. That is still the future in my book.

Not on Amazon yet. I think it will be good. Their AR Reloading Handbook (C) 2014 is much more up to date.
 
Magazines are almost always 2 months ahead.
That way it can sit on the rack for 2 months and still appear to be brand new.
 
I will also order the 50th when it comes out to go along with my 49th and the one I bought40 years ago when I first started reloading. Back then reading that manual was the only way I learned as I didn't know anyone that reloaded.
 
How About the Lyman Pistol and Revolver Handbook 3Rd Edition?

Little off the primary subject here, but I just noticed the Lyman Pistol and Revolver Handbook 3Rd Edition - How 'bout some thoughts on this one? What is the copyright date on the 3Rd Edition Pistol?

Is there anything special about it to make it worth adding to the library along with the new 50th? My original Lyman manual is the 43Rd, so I guess it's time to snarf up the new one!
 
I'm hoping that Sierra also comes out with a new manual. I will likely buy a Sierra, Hornady, and the Lyman books.

3rd edition of the Lyman Pistol Manual is 2004. I'd guess that the new "50th" edition will likely just include that data. Who knows if they'll include any updates, etc? I'd be real nice if their description gave more detail on what NEW info. was included.

Pistol and Revolver Handbook 3rd Edition does not have additional data.

It has exactly the same handgun data as the Lyman 48th Handbook. No additional data.

The difference is in the chapters up front. Pistol and Revolver focuses on articles directed solely at handguns.

The data is exactly the same as Lyman 48th. No more, no less.
 
The site doesn't mention if newer powders are included in the book. The list of new cartridges is useless to me. Actually it shows 2 hardcovers at 2 different prices. Not sure what's going on there...

Even though I wasn't reloading way back when Lyman 42 came out I did buy that manual used and all the others to the 49th Edition. I also have the shotgun 4th and 5th editions and the cast bullet handbooks 3rd and 4th Edition.... I do like Lyman and I bought all the old Speer manuals back to #4.

Sent a message to customer service today about not being able to order there 50th Edition Handbook off the website and why two different prices. Maybe I will hear something back from them in a day or so an report back what I find out. I see the new edition is in full color as well.

I gave my #48 to my brother years ago and my #49 is pretty dogeared these days.

I returned a borrowed 49th yesterday after finding a 48th for $5 in the bargain boxes at my LGS.

Keeping an eye out here too. :)
 
Interesting

About 3 months ago I got the 49th edition.Before doing that I emailed lyman asking them if there was a 50th edition coming out anytime with in the year.they said there was not.

I can answer why the two different prices, higher price is for the hard cover and the other is the soft cover. Lyman started producing a hard cover manual with their 49th Edition.
