A few years back I came across an article that gave part numbers for different M-1 Garand bolts. Among those was a number for a Garand bolt that had a longer than normal locking lug to bolt face dimension which could be used for headspacing a barrel with a longer than normal chamber. Now I want the information and can't find it. Anyone have any lead on such information?

SA-12 bolts will normally headspace to dimensions in a wide variety of Garands.
I think SA-15 bolts have a reputation of running on the long side too.

Thanks Onmilo,
I think you mean -15SA? Next time I'm at a gun show I'll look for one. In the final step of adjusting headspace, I reamed too deep. So I have a brand new Barnett barrel with a chamber that headspaces at the no-go dimension + .006" (if I remember correctly-this happened about 6 years ago). The finish reamer was brand new and cut very agressively. If I had broken down and bought a hand crank finish reamer, I probably wouldn't have had to buy a new barrel. That was my first attempt at fitting a new Garand barrel and I've been a lot more careful since then. Bad thing about having this happen on a Garand is that you can't cut the shoulder back one thread and start over again.

-15, 15-, you knew what I meant.
You can't cut the shoulder back one thread but you can turn or swage the barrel shoulder on a lathe.
Keep the dimension a bit smaller than you anticipate to allow crush fitting if neccessary to align the front sight and gas port.
Remember to face the chamber back an identical dimension if you do this.HTH

The barrel indexes very nicely. It's just that the headspace is too deep because I reamed to deeply so I'm hoping that a bolt with a longer dimension from rear of lugs to bolt face will cure the headspacing problem.

Thanks for the information and interest.
