The heartless doofus who left that carbine under the stairs to rust should be shot with it. He probably figured since he got it for $20 from the CMP way back in the day, it wasn't worth some care and respect.:banghead:

It's nice to know that Santa granted my Christmas wish to SOMEONE. Lucky dog. Do something nice for mom, but don't tell her what it's worth! 
I was at a local indoor range/gunstore oneday
When a guy walks in with one of these tucked under his arm. He asks the guy behind the counter if he wants to buy it from him. The guy behind the counter says that the buyer is not in and could he come back later. In the mean time my buddy asks if he may look at the gun and asks the guy where he got it. His dad had died and this had been in the house since he could remember. He didn't like guns so he was just lookin to get rid of it. My friend then tells the guy that he needs to go back and find out if his dad had ever bothered to register this gun with BATF and, if not he needs to take it to the local PD or destroy it. It had that funny little selector switch on the side. It was an M-2. It nearly crushed my friend to tell him this cause he had immediatel fallen in love with the gun.

Have heard this too many times... It's just not right. We don't need to give the libs any excuses to label guns BAD.
While I understand BATF's position, there should be better provisions for inherited firearms legally obtained and responsibly maintained for years to be transfered within the family or according to the wishes of the deceased or the executor of the estate. These are not the illegal machine guns of outlaws who are killing indescriminantly. :banghead: Ignorance of the significance of your inheritance is a shame, but that ignorance is no reason to go to prison. BATF needs to support leagl transfer in such cases!
