Ok, So i got my girlfriend a 300,000 volt taser. Her mom recently found it and took it away for these reasons.

1. it was a gun (which it really wasnt, it was a taser, looked like tv remote almost)

2. "the police use them irresponsibly and they cause damage" (well gee...dont you want to damage a rapist??!?! "

generally, her mom fears the word gun. they go camping in bear country, there was a bear last time i went with them. walking around the camp, tearing stuff apart. SHE WONT LET HER HUSBAND BRING A RIFLE!!! i tried talking them into getting a cheap mosin nagant m44 to keep in the truck. Nope, guns are evil apparently. I told them, its an old bolt action military rifle, it will provide PROTECTION to your family. if that bear charged...there would be no stopping it. we didnt even have a bear can of mace. the bear wasnt angry, it was just eating and sniffing and tearing bags. but im getting off topic. it seems that her mom doesnt even consider defending her family because guns are soooo evil. argh

Buy your girlfrind a real gun. If her mom takes that away, give the the BATFE a call.

In fact, why don't you call the police and let them have a talk with your girlfrond's mother?

yeah in your profile it says you were born in 84, so that makes you either 20 or 21... assuming your gf is the same age, i wouldnt take that crap from my mom if i was her... id stand up to her

ya, i just found out about this. im planning on talking to her mom. im gonna ask whats more important, your political values or your daughters safety? so i plan on having a talk with her. and my girlfriend is talking to her as we speak

Careful guys !

talking is always good but in the final say it still comes down to my house - my rules. You don't have to like them, but you should respect them.
Driving a wedge between mom and daughter is a loose - loose situation. I urge caution on how it is approached.

Well, first, is it a "stun gun" or a "Taser?" The two are entirely different items. Since you also said 300,000 volts, I will assume it is a stun gun. These things are nearly as dangerous to the user as to the bad guy. For one thing you need to close with your opponent, and reach out and touch him with the "stun gun." You must time this with triggering the device. Tasers on the other hand allow you to have distance, 12-15 feet, and deliver 50,000 volts at 2.1 milliamps.

Now for the other matter at hand. Your girlfriend will be a problem in your future attraction to guns, her mother is a witless professional victim, and her father similarly has no spine, .... there are other fish in the sea.

I am sure she will have more choices in what she wants to own when she gets a job and moves into her own place. If you and her do not agree with her mother, that is the next step.
Someone needs to grow up, and mom is probably too old to change.

It's best you stay on the sidelines on this one. This is something that the mother and daughter has to straighten out.
They need to know how to camp in bear country more than have any firearm. Leaving foodstuff for the bear to smell will draw them to your camp.

All ultimiate issues of right and wrong aside, I'm going to say "what Majic said" on this one. Generally speaking, do not intervene in the family disputes of girlfriends, and never, ever, become personally involved in a girlfriend vs her mother fight. In private, absolutely be supportive and provide ammunition for your girlfriend's arguments, but that really has to be where you stop. Children can whine and moan all they want about their own families, but it gets ugly fast if you start getting involved in someone else's family arguments.

Good question - the animal Taser dropped a bull like a rock, but as soon as it cylced off, that bull tried to kill everyone withing 50 feet! :p Perhaps a Taser on bear while everyone runs for rifles???

What is NJ law regarding "electronic incapacitating devices"? Most staes have laws specifically addressing these items since they are relatively new, and the individual states rules vary greatly. I cant imagine the peoples republic of NJ being too accepting of these things.

Don't get me wrong, I think they're a great last defense weapon, I just don't want to see your GF get in trouble.

I'd move across the river to PA. where she won't need permission from the state or her mother to have a stun gun, handgun, or elephant gun.

AS long as she is in mom's house mom gets to make the rules, no matter how irrational.
Exactly.

And I also agree that a stun gun (probably not a Taser, because a Taser shoots a barb that you activate from a remote distance) was probably a poor choice. Give your GF a medium-size pepper spray, be sure she knows how to use it and knows to have it accessible (not buried in the bottom of a 25-pound purse) when in potentially dangerous areas, and DON'T tell her mother about it.

I gotta go along with the idea of "Her house her rules" on this one...Ya dont ever wanna get into the middle of a family argument..Trust me on this one! :banghead:

Get her some pepperspray and a hammer (16oz and above)...Sharpen the claws on the hammer with a bastard file....

Teach her to pepperspray the guy THEN beat him in the face with the hammer...Tends to work or so I have been told

IF you can work it, have "Hammer smashed face" by Cannibal Corpse playing in the backgroud for that added "dash" of irony...

Then somebody needs to be a man and do the right thing anyway.

This doesn't sound like it's your fight, and confronting your girlfriend's mom with political ideology sounds like an inevitably losing endevour to me. But if that's what ya wanna do, tell us how it works out.

Stop and think about this for a second. Mom is already PO'ed about the stun gun. Now daughter is talking to her about it and that probably isn't helping matters. Then you plan on walking into Mom's house and tell her that she's wrong in her thinking and you have all the answers. Knowing my Mom and quite a few others you better hope you get out that lady's house in one piece. :uhoh:

The daughter could say to mom that if a stun gun is prohibited then then she asumes that mom thinks it's ok if daughter is raped.

Taken from this article: The Ugly Side of Pacifism

Pacifism is a luxury. Like golf, it can be enjoyed by a fortunate few, while most of us face a harsher reality. Pacifists often live in safe suburbs or gated communities, so they cannot understand why anyone feels the need for self-defense. They rarely work or live in high-crime areas, as do many poor people and minorities. They need not dirty their hands with weapons; gun oil has a pleasant smell with which they are unfamiliar. They depend on the police and military to keep them safe — and then look down with contempt on their protectors, while cutting their funding and hampering them with unrealistic rules.

As has been said, it doesn’t matter how many resolutions the sheep pass in favor of vegetarianism; the only thing that matters is whether the wolves are hungry. The world is full of hungry wolves. Sheep are too stupid to know this, so sheepdogs protect them. But what if the sheep were just smart enough to muzzle the sheepdogs, because the growls disturbed their peaceful slumbers?

Be not the sheep.

A solution could be to stage a rape to clear things up... but that wouldn't be The High Road.
Reminds me of my opinion of Vic Mackey from The Shield: There's "buy-the-book" law enforcement....then there's EFFECTIVE LAW ENFORCEMENT! :D :neener:
