Is it true that the M-1100 works more reliably than the M-11-87 in 20 ga., or is that just a rumor?

Which other factors might incline one to buy one model over the other?

Thanx.

I shoot with guys who have both. Maintained properly, neither has failed in a number of years of skeet and sporting clays. Thousands and thousands of shells fired and never a failure of any kind.

I will always choose the 1100 over the 11-87.
Futhermore, I will always choose the original gas system of the 1100, therefore I will choose an older 1100.
Additonally, 2 3/4" only chambers will be my choice for a clay gun.
Exception for the .410 of course.

Personal observations, and experiences spanning too many years.

11-87 Premier in 20 with a 26" barrel has nice balance. Despite complaints about the 11-87 in 12 messing with the legendary 1100 balance and swing, the Premier 20 feels damn good.

sm, what's that?

I've queried people about that, and word is that the gas system of the 1100 has always been the same (not the G3, of course, but the regular 1100). Is that not true? How is it different?

They got "goopy" and went to this one pc gas set up.

I mean how is a person supposed to get a ring on wrong? :p

I have not seen many, main reason are the folks I tend to shoot are as bad as me about new stuff.

We still think [ and are 200% correct btw] the 6 1/2 oz Coke, in a bottle was a different forumla and tasted better than the Coke when goint to the new 10 oz and for sure better than the Coke of today.

I mean the 2 3/4" , original 1100 with its "multi" pc gas system worked. It won , continues to win, fell game and everything.

Remington wants to "mess" with an idea - bring back the Nylon 66, butt fed .22 lr rifle . I mean bring it back like it was, brown stock with blue receiver and barrel. Don't screw with, just bring it back as it was.
Oh and sell it for ...IIRC these originally were $39 . :p Okay MSRP for $100 - fair enough in my book.

Rem and everyone has a good thing, then they "line extension" it, or "goop it up".
Competition Master? Why?

We ran bone stock 1100s, Beretta 303, and SX1 all day long in "Competitions" long before "3 gun" really caught on. We called them "2 gun shoots" . Granted we couldn't count, and often shot handgun, rifle and shotgun in these "shoots"

1100s, Beretta 303, and SX1s ? Never a problem running slugs and #6 shot,#8 shot in target loads in these.

We never shot a competition or tourney with a "clean" gun either. We Always shot at least 50 rds after we cleaned one, entered any serious shoot.

We refused to clean one 1100, we ran that gun best recall damn near 2500 rds, only reason we cleaned it, shooting in the rain and *someone* decided to cut across the course and went down in a ditch with it.
I fall real nice - gotta go for style points ya know? ;)

I just "sloshed" the mud off, checked the bore and kept shooting it, never missed a beat.

Hey the deal was to "get there and take out the targets" - nobody said I could not run that direction...so I did. It worked.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I'm kinda tired of guns getting fixed until they don't work.

I'm going to raise nine kinds of hell if someone starts "fixin" single shot H&R and NEFs so they don't work too. And I will so!

Gee Willikers - we did our competitions with Guns most folks had and kept handy. WE did not use extensions, any of this other stuff, we replicated someone taking the 1100 they used for everything and did everything and then some with them.

How I used my SX1, 1100s and Beretta 303, lever actions, 1911s Kframes, and single shots.

Marketing, "gotta haves" , Credit cards...

Fed up with this buying skill and targets. Does anyone just learn to shoot anymore?

OLD 1100 system works as good today as it did back then and better than a lot of newer offerings with fuzzy dice and curb feelers.

Heck my attititude - Everyone buy all the lastest greatest stuff out their, and trade in your old stuff. Yep, that is what I tell folks and encourgage them to do.

I'm serious. I told someone the other day to get the new gun as soon as possible.
" I need to sell something to get it".
I told him I knew someone that would buy his two revolvers. I stood right there and told him a Model 19 and Model 29 were total crap and antiquated.

Yep sure did. He now has a tricked out shotgun and got rid of them POS revolvers.

I do not do this with some folks mind you, - but I am sure doing it. I am fed up and going to quit arguing with folks.

Winchester 101 in 20 ga- yep told the fella he needed to sell that LNIB old gun and case, got him a Benelli with all the bells and whistles now, hope he enjoys it, all he had been known to shoot at and miss is doves.

Buy the newest stuff and get rid of all the old stuff to folks that will take them off your hands I say.

Exactly what I am telling more and more folks - I am dead serious. I do not care anymore...except for a few folks I do.

Re: the 6 1/2 oz Coke, in a bottle tasted better

Not a doubt in the world about that. Maybe it was the formula and maybe it was the bottling process, but they fouled something up.

And there's just something about the 1100 that feels right coming to the shoulder that they couldn't quite duplicate in the 11-87.
