M-14 -- How to Put Together??

The M-14 was a little before my time, but I just bought one. I pulled the trigger mechanism out, and now I can't get it back in. Can anyone walk me though this process? Thanks.

I had just seen it done, but didn't remember that the trigger guard had to be detached. Does the rifle have to to cocked at the time the trigger mechanisim is inserted? Mine was, and it went right in.

yes, the trigger group must be cocked.
