M&P 9 vs. G17 Gen4 vs. FNP-9

I currently have a M&P 40c that I use for carry and am in the market for a 9mm to use as a range/hd gun. I narrowed my choices down to the M&P 9 and Glock 17 Gen4. A friend recently called who wants to sell his FNP-9 for a great price. I've shot all three and liked them all, any thoughts on which one to get myself for Christmas?
I would label dice two sides each with G, FN, SW and roll odd number of times (3,5,7,...) and make my choice based on those results.

All to me are of the same grade and category. One has to feel better than the others. if not then go by weight, personal preference (looks you like best), and then cost. Hard choice to make.

Nice to hear the good words on the FNP9 rellascout, I just got a nice used one today with 5 mags included.
Haven't shot it yet but from the looks it is a fairly decent piece. I like the way it fits my hand better than my Glocks, we'll see I may become a convert. Never thought I'd own a gun that had mags that cost more than my HK.

My opinion in this order.

1. M&P
2. FN
3. Anything other than Glock

I too will never own a Glock.

Don't confuse the FNP9 with the FNX9. They are NOT the same gun, and I personally think the company went backwards with the new gun. The FNP9 does not have the same mag issues as the X has - different mags, different mag retention mechanisms.

My FNP9 has been very reliable, it has a surprisingly sweet SA trigger, and the gun is very accurate and fun to shoot. I would definitely recommend this gun if you can't afford a HK P30.

I would recommend the FNP-9 even if you can afford the HK P30. The FNP-9 is definitely one of the most underrated pistols on the market today.

if you use a high handed grip on your m&p, you might have the same decocking problem.

Is this is a typo? How do you decock an M&P?

not a typo. syntax error maybe. i was refering to his interest in the fnp. if he uses a high handed grip on his m&p and switches to the fnp using the same grip type, he may have the same issues i did.

I assume this is what you are talking about... http://fnforum.net/sent-my-fnp-in-fo...ck-t22928.html

You need to get your facts straight IMHO. OP clearly states: I finally got to talk with FNH customer service. The reason given for the replacement was due to a lack of parts for my FNP without it taking several weeks/months for parts to become available. I was also told it might take as long as three months to get my "lost" magazine replaced. From this I gather that parts/magazine production is rather slow OR demand is outstripping production capabilities.

It was going to take weeks or even months to fix his pistol so they sent him an new one. That is outstanding customer service. Now they did screw him out of one of the mags he sent in but since he never posted a follow up stating unhappiness I assume they took care of it.
I don't remember reading that. Most likely I was gone before that was posted. No reason to go back after I got rid of the FN.
It doesn't really change anything though. It comes down to a difference of opinion as to what constitutes lake of product support and good customer service. Having neither the parts to fix that model for week or months (or ever?) nor another to replace it with doesn't show support for that product. The customer wasn't even given the courtesy of a call or letter advising him of the situation. I guess it's easier to get forgiven than it is to get permission. That's not good customer service...........not even close.

Merry Christmas

Sorry but you are wrong on the facts. They will fix it. If the OP in that case wanted to leave his gun with FN for 3 months to have his FNP back he could have done that. They were between parts runs. It happens. My point is that they are in fact supporting the FN and the owners who own them.

I just went back & read every post in that thread & the facts are as I've previously stated, i.e. the OP of that thread wasn't given the option. He was sent a FNX as a replacement (and a defective one at that) without consulting him first.

Here's another happy customer.http://fnforum.net/so-this-is-customer-service-fnp-9-t24265.html

That is correct. All of which was done in FNs attempts to service and support the FNP line of pistols.

The OP if he saw it as a major issue could have simply called or emailed Bob of FN and he would have sent a call tag. Picked up the FNX and put the FNP on the shelf to await repair. IIRC others suggested this if he had a major issue with what FN had done.

The facts are that FN is supporting these pistols. You might not like the way in which it was done in this case but you cannot make the claim that FN is not taking care of the FNP customer which is what your post attempts to portray. The facts are that they are manufacturing replacement parts for the FNP. They are even still making parts for the FNP-9M which was discontinued over 3 years ago. Your post has not proven anything to the contrary.

If you do not like the FNP line state that. State the reasons you did not like yours and why you sold it but to misrepresent the facts about the current service level FN is providing the owners of this pistol is wrong. IMHO

The guy got a lemon. Got messed up on the repair. Snowball getting bigger as it rolls down hill. Not good IMHO. Interesting that there was no follow up post once he was told that Bob was not in the office. I am not here to defend FN. I think the FNP is a decent gun. it is not stellar IMHO but at a sub $400 price they are a pretty good value.

What I have yet to see you prove is that FN no longer supports the FNP line of pistols.

I've owned glocks and m&p's,both were reliable and accurate. I like both brands but the m&p has a better feel in my hand than a glock. The fn I've never owned or shot one, so I can't give an honest opinion either way.
