What would be a good OWB holster for the M&P 40? I plan on using it for carrying while hunting and range use mostly but also would like it to be concealable with a jacket. I hunt in a climbing treestand so I probably need something with good retention.

For hunting and CCW under a jacket I'd go leather with a thumbbreak.

I use one of these with a S&W SD40 and it conceals well enough, is comfortable, and VERY secure:

For "range use" I'd say that is also fine, unless you plan on range use being any sort of competitive shooting. The thumbbreak slows down the draw a bit for that. I'd try something with only passive retention there. Bladetech or Comp-Tac kydex holsters are good there.

+2 on the Raven phantom. I just got mine last week and it works like a champ with my M&P45. I ordered it because I wanted a holster compatible with a light on the rail.

I have a simply rugged Cuda for it as well and really like it too for open carry or under a jacket.
