I'm looking for a 9mm (service size not a dinky compact) pistol. Since I cant afford to buy all three. I had a few questions...

Who has the best customer service and best warranty?
Is the M&P American made (I was disappointed to find the XD was not)?
Which is easier to care for and service?
Who has the highest capacity mags?

Thanks!

One or two rounds should not be the deciding factor. This is the first post I've ever seen where someone worried about that.

Glock 19.

Your right... One or Two rounds are NOT the deciding factor. It is and should be one of many factors.

Your is the first post I have ever seen, where the number of rounds was not one of the factors in making an intelligent decision.

Well, just let me help you with some math and research, there DerbyDale.

Glock 19 = 15 rounds

Springfield XD9 = 16 rounds

S&W M&P = 17 rounds

So just let us all know where you draw the line on choosing a pistol for magazine capacity. Is it one or two rounds?

Your picking out ONE of my questions and for some reason making it THE deciding factor. I don't know why this bothers you...

As far as this ONE question. I didn't know if there are any after market mags/options out there, which can hold more that the factory mags.

If any other of my questions bothers you, please take your derogatory comments elsewhere. I was only asking (what maybe a simple question to you) for some advice and help. I'm not a firearm expert and have only been shooting for a year or two. I'm still trying to learn.

It's simple. There at most a 2 round difference between the lowest capacity pistol and the highest capacity pistols on your list. Either 2 rounds really matters to you or you didn't know the difference between the three which took me about 90 seconds of research.

The answer should not even be compounded on a 2 round difference. No matter what you still have at least 15 rounds. See which one comes up on target, points most naturally for you. Then try the triggers.

I have and carry a Glock 19 with 15 rounds plus 1 in the chamber. I wouldn't feel any safer with a S&W M&P with 2 more rounds.

I own all three in .45 ACP and would have to go with the XD closely followed by the glock.

Me and a buddy just got back from handgun shopping.

I bought a Glock he bought the M&P neither one of us liked the "glorified Hi-Point" ergonomics of the XD, I don't doubt the XD's function is flawless but it just simply doesn't feel right. I felt like I could throw the Springfield as accurately as I could shoot the XD.

The Beretta Storm also felt nice though. You'd better buy the pistol that fits YOUR hand best, get out there and handle a few before committing to buy

I have the M&P in 40 but have shot glocks quite a bit in 40. I prefer the Smith but you can't argue with a glocks track record. Never shot the XD. All three of these will most likely serve you well.

Another thing to take into account is buying all sorts of aftermarket upgrades and do-dads is your thing then you'll want to stick with the GLOCK, the handgun equivalent of a ruger 10-22

Gosh

All along I thought the Magazine capacity of the weapons in question were;

Glock 17 held 17 rounds.
Glock 19 held 15 rounds.
XD held 16 rounds.
M&P held 17 rounds.

Maintenance is dominated by Glock
The XD requires some things to be serviced by the factory (send it back)
The M&P I really don't know. Sure S&W has a great track record of factory service, but the ability to service your M&P in the field with original parts is yet to be seen.

The M&P has the ability to change grip sizes without doing anything radical. Like the S&W/Walther 99 and SIGPRO's.

They all seem to be reliable. Glock has the real life experience. XD seems like it will hold up. The M&P is yet to be seen. It appears that it may make it.

Of the plastic pistols, I would go with Glock, because I like to maintain my own weapons.

Other than that, I would go with the weapon that fit the best, or you shot the best. The XD and M&P appear they will be as reliable as the Glock.

there appears to be difference in which caliber you choose. The XD 45 folks seem to out-weight the Glock 45 folks, in 40 the M&P seems to be preferred and in 9mm the Glock still seems to be king. This is not about facts, but that hard to define preference.

Go figure.

Fred

The Glock fits all of your criterias.

The Glock 17 holds 17 rounds.

Glock has exceptional customer service. Probably the best in the industry.

Glocks are very very easy to field strip and clean. You don't even have to lube it at all and it will run flawlessly. The finish will stand up to almost anything. Plus if you want to detail strip the Glock, it is way easier than the XD... trust me... I own both. I have no opinion on the M&P and detail stripping since I don't own one yet.

Also OEM parts are available everywhere for the Glocks and extra mags are way cheaper than the other two choices you have.

But pick what you are comfortable with, all three guns should serve you well.

M&P's are simple to take apart and put together. A drift punch and hammer, and the built-in tool are almost all you need to tear it down to the frame. Assuming you had the parts in your box, you could replace everything on the frame. An extra sear-block would make it quicker. Just push the roll pin out, disconnect the trigger bar, pull out the block and replace.

As every chardonay is trying to be a white burgendy every 9mm is trying to be a Glock.

in the 9mm Caliber INHO Glock wins Hands Down. Springfield & S&W make fine guns buththey aren't Glocks. 17/19/26 or 34 the Glock 9mm is the one to emulate. It's hard to improve on perfection.

Reliable, Accurate and practictically indestructible is the only wa to describe Glock pistols.

Needless to say I would choose the Glock over the other two in 9mm.

IN other calibers I'd choose other guns above the Glock .40 I'd get Sig & HK with Glock a close third and in .45 it's a 1911 all the way.

I handled the M&P for the first time yesterday and really loved it. I chose Glock for complete reliability. I think Rah Rah Rah for the XD is over.

Springfield has VERY good customer service.. My gun needed to be re-blued so I called Springfield and they told me to send it in and they would do it for free.. I just got it back and it looks awesome ..

I think the problem is that the question itself is flawed. The truth is... there is not a best option that can be decided for everyone. Everyone has different sized hands and have different perceptions. Therefore, there is no such thing as a "best" option in polymer pistols. When all of our hands are the exact same size, and we all have the same perceptions - then we can determine the "best" option.

Some people don't "like" the grip angle of the glock. Now they have Glock-like options with a different grip angle.

Some people don't like the trigger feel of the glock. Now they have Glock-like options with a different trigger type.

Some people don't like the appearance of the glock. Now they have Glock-like options with a different exterior appearance.

Some people don't like the plastic sights on the glock. Now they have Glock-like options with different factory sights.

--- All of these handguns are almost exactly the same in function and format, but the differences are there to meet differences in personal opinions and preferences.

I like the XD, M&P, and the Glock. They are all very good weapons. I would feel comfortable using any one of them. I happened to go with what I felt was the most proven, popular, basic design - which ended up being the Glock 19. I could have gone with the XD or the M&P and probably have been just as happy.

We as gun enthusiasts often get caught up in this silly "my gun is better" strain of thought - without realizing that the marketing campaigns have succeeded in brainwashing us.

The TRUTH is,
1. that all of these guns are excellent options,
2. that there is no such thing as the "best handgun b/c it is based on personal preference, and
3. even if you buy what you think is "perfect" - you will soon find a different "perfect/better" handgun and end up buying that one too.

Good luck on finding that elusive "best" one - because as we all know --- there can be only one!

You won't go wrong with either three. Pick the one you shoot the straightest.

I can't agree more. This is so important. All three are good - but which of the three is the best tool in your own hands? Only you can decide that.

And.... you may want to consider an HK USP compact or HK P2000, because they are awesome guns!

I've got a Glock 19 and I love it. I've handled the M&P and it balanced just as well, maybe better. If I shot it then I might be saying to get the M&P...but the M&P is fairly new, while Glock hasa long record of reliability.

And are those three your only options? How about the H&K USP or P2000? I'd pick a USP over any of the options listed.

Eta:Hey Finalcut,great minds think alike:D.

I own Several XD's and one MP at the moment. I picked the XD because of its accuracy and total reliability. I understand the Glock is reliable too, but I have yet to pick up a Glock that even came close to feeling good in my hand. I should have read further down. Since it is a 9mm you are looking for, the MP has a slight advantage over the XD because of the Mag capacity. I do like the MP grip a Tad better too. To me these two are a dead heat. I own three XD's and after thousands of rounds through all three combined not ONE failure of Any kind ! The other reason I Love my XD's is their accuracy. Although I have only owned the MP a couple of months I am also Extremely impressed with it. The Best of Luck to you in your decision:) I hope you get the one that fits you best!
