all,

Who has the best magazines for the m1 carbine? CMP, Cheaper than Dirt, Keep Shooting.com, etc.?

I don't know about distributors, I always got mine at shows.

In my experience, the ones that were one piece of steel folded over felt a lot more durable and sturdy as opposed to the two-piece ones. I heard the two piece ones had issues, but I have never seen any first hand. Then again, I only own one piece mags.

I have a bunch of USGI 15 rounders and about 5 Korean 30 rounders. I was surprised that the Koreans work so well. USGI 30s are very rare and often faked so if you want 30s, the Koreans are about your only bet. For 15s, get USGI or Koreans.

If you can get the USGI magazines.

However, the Korean (KCI) M1 Carbine magazines are really good.
Remember, the Koreans have been using the M1 & M2 Carbines since the 1950s and are still being used by some reserve military and police units. They initally used USGI magazines, but started making their own magazines in the 1970s to replace worn out USGI magazines. So, they do have some expierence making reliable M1/M2 Carbine magazines.

My 15 round 30 Carbine mags are GI, but know several folks who are happy with recent Korean surplus 15 rounders and they're fairly inexpensive. Most of them came as-new, in the original pouches. CMP ran out of GI mags last summer, but think they have more now?

BTW, most 30 rounders work better if your Carbine has the M2 catch assembly, as the original design was for 15 rounders.

I have been using the Korean 15 and 30 round mags for quite some time. The 15's are the way to go, I have never had any 30 rd be totally reliable, regardless of manufacture.

CMP has USGI for $15. You might have to wait for a couple of months to get them because CMP is swamped. I have 3 KCI Korean 15 round mags, and they seem to work good, but they have a low round count so far.

I've had great experiences with the 30 rd Koreans. I'd buy more in a heartbeat. USGI 15rders work well too... with the exception of a Rugg one I have with (I think) a crappy aftermarket follower in it. In any case it's the only mag that doesn't work for me so far.
