How rare are U.S. military scope mounts for the M1 Carbine?

I think I may have one but no scope.
Before you say it I will, why scope an M1 Carbine?

The only scope the military put on the M1 Carbine was the big infrared deal (Carbine, M3), commonly used as a sniper rifle in the Korean War period and later. I have an Ultimak mount on one, and it works well with forward mount scopes or red dots.

How much of a shift in zero do you see from routine assembly/disassembly for cleaning?

shouldn't really be any shift. It's bolted to the barrel and doesn't touch anything else. I haven't pulled mine out of the stock since I installed mine though, so I can't say for sure.

Understood,I apparently didn't read the product description closely enough. I was under the impression that the barrel band was providing the sole source of tension.

No, it is fully mounted to the barrel, and never shifts. Removal of the barreled action for cleaning shows no shift in point of impact. It is a very fine mount for its purpose.

I think the only U.S. scoped Carbine was the M-3 with the night sniping array. Do a search and you'll be able to look at components o determine if it's M-3 or not.

I am surprised no one has posted this mount yet:

Not affilliated with the company in any way:

It mounts in the rear sight dovetail...Knock out the GI sight, slide a threaded piece in the dovetail, and screw down the rail...

I have not tried a heavy scope, but it holds my Millet Red Dot nicely...

As to the original question, I agree that the only GI scope was the IR...
