scope mounts, m1 carbine

While the M1a comes with great iron sights, some of us just simply prefer optics...count me in that camp!
My M1a Socom is definitely 1 of my favorites and optics aren't difficult to add!
Mine has the Sadlak Airborne mount and it works VERY well-I can change between my aimpoint, a 4x20 or 1 1/2x6 scope within a minute and they ALL hold zero.
Also have a Bradley adjustable cheek riser on it.
It's set up just how I wanted and am VERY PLEASED with it!

I believe the M2 mag catch was for running an M2 on full auto. When firing full auto, the magazine would fall out more easily without the third nub and associated catch.

In semi-auto mode, they third nub on the magazine catches is not necessary.

But, I did not stay in a Holiday Inn last night.:)

The third catch was there because the 30 rnd magazines were twice as heavy as the 15 rndrs.
I have run plenty of 30 round mags with my M1 carbine. I use the M-2 catch because when I first got 30 rd. magazines the catches on back would eventually be worn down, but with the third catch this doesn't happen.
This might not be the same with all carbines.
Whatever floats your boat.:) But having that extra catch doesn't hurt anything -- you can still use 15 rnd mags just as easily.
