M1 Garand Scope Mount Question

About 12 years ago I purchased a H&R M1 receiver from Clint McKee of Fulton Armory. Later that year I returned the receiver to Clint so he could build me a Peerless N.M. M1 Garand in .308 cal. I asked for the following options:

• Black Laminated Birch Stock with Matching Hand Guard.
• H&R parts up charge.

Well the rifle has been sitting in my safe since and never fired. I now would like to either start shooting it or sell it. My eyes are not what they used to be so I prefer to shoot with a scope now.

What are my best options for mounting a scope on this Garand? I thought about a Griffin and Howe M1C mount, but that would require removing the barreled receiver from the bedded stock and sending the barreled receiver back to Griffin and Howe for modification.

Thanks

There are a couple companies that make "no mod" scope mounts for the M1. They replace the rear sight and can be removed with no problem.

S&K is one.... can't remember the other one.

Pretty rifle!

IF that rifle has a standard contour bbl. and not a heavy one, there is another option:

This is just a rear handguard swap, allows you to keep the issue sights, and is robust in the limited testing I've done so far. If you have an intermediate eye relief scope (Leupold or Burris are both fine), you're there. If not, SOME but not all pistols scopes have the correct eye relief range. Do some research here and you may find your ultimate solution.

Good luck, and SHOOT that baby!
