Hi, everyone. My first post here. A friend has a nice M1 Garand which he was shooting this weekend from a bench. With a full 8-round en-bloc clip, he fired the first round, and the rifle shortstroked the first round (bolt did not cycle back far enough to pick up the next round in the clip & push it forward into the chamber). The rifle fired all remaining rounds properly. This occured several times. His problem seems to be with the first round only. His rifle is in excellent condition, and is clean. Any ideas on the cause, and the cure? Thanks much.

If it's a bit under-gassed, it maybe that the friction from the 2'nd round combined with the follower guide still having much pressure on the 2'nd round may not allow the bolt to go completely back and strip the round out of the clip. I had the same problem with my M1 and Springfield Armory in Geneseo IL cleaned out the gas port and it's worked flawlessly ever since.
