Just bought a .308 M1 Garand manufactured by the H&R Arms Co.. Gorgeous! Mint condition. Can't wait to test her out in a week or so. Shot my first M1 Garand last week. Loved the rifle. What do you guys think? Good choice?

Depending on who/when did the conversion, you should check to see if it is really a 7.62x51 barrel, or a .30-06 barrel with a chamber insert.

The military gave up on using chamber inserts to convert their Garands because they could come out.

I have a 7.62 NATO Tanker Garand (yes I know it was a sales gimmick) built on a WWII SA receiver. It has an Arlington Arms barrel (chambered 7.62 NATO). It shoots 2-2 1/2 at 100 yd with GI ammo and I'm quite satisfied with it.

Keep in mind that properly set up these 7.62 NATO conversions need to use NATO spec ammo as the 30-06 Garand is made for M2 ball pressures. Most commericial 308 ammo is too high pressure and will damage the rifle. You can get around this using an adjustable gas plug like the Schuster but is something you must be aware of.

Many of the 7.62 NATO conversions on the market were made up from parts so you may have parts from 1941 to 1956 in your rifle. That doesn't make them bad guns as long as all the parts were in spec.
