Hi all,
We all know that Ordnance was looking for one civilian company to make M1 Garand rifles, before WW2. Only 2 companies bid for that production. Winchester and Remington made the bids. Winchester won the bid for Production of the M1 Garand because Winchester was willing to take partial payments. Remington required advance payment. However, Remington proposed a deal at the final settlement at the end of the contract. What was the deal that Remington offered to Ordnance on the production of the M1 Garand Rifle contract?
Thanks again
Clancy
ps this one should have you checking your books

I don't think I've ever read anything about that. I think there was some controversy at one time if Remington ever made an M1 Garand- preproduction toolroom-type examples or otherwise. Some people saying the only Garands in Remington's posession were there for development of one-piece, and/or metal handguards, as I recall.
I seem to remember it being proven that there was such an animal as a Remington M1, but can't recall where I saw it.

I'll do some looking, but for now, I'll take a guess or two:

Could the deal involve another contract? Like tying-in an ammunition, or 1911 pistol contract?

Facilities? Did Remington want access to another facility for production? I'm probably just subconciously thinking Eddystone and WW I here.

Interesting.

I haven't really had a chance to research it yet, but still wondering.

I did recall that what I read about Remington Garands was regarding the T20 research and development. I think.
Must've been in my old Hoffschmidt book. I wonder where I left it?

Hi all,
On the Remington Garand contract here is the answer:
"The Remington Company also proposed that there is a final settlement at the end of the contract to provide that if the profits made are in excess of 10% a refund be made to the Government for such excess."
Thanks again
Clancy

Thanks!
I haven't had a chance to look in here again until now.
I always enjoy these quizes, even if I usually don't participate.
