I have a plan to buy my wife a revolver this weekend. I bought my daughter one last weekend (threads located here on THR), & when I give it to her I also want to surprise my wife with one.
Some of this is repeat; mentioned in the threads about getting my daughter a gun but here goes:
While I could get my wife the same gun I bought my daughter (NIB 637-2) - the dealer has more & gave me a good price - there may be better choices. I really don't belive my wife will carry. She may place it in the car when going out sometimes; getting it to & from the car won't be an issue. I'd like to convince her to place it in her purse when she goes out on her motorcycle alone; but even then her time off the bike (when she has to shoulder her purse) would be limited - as it would if she were out in the car & it became disabled. This will be more a nightstand gun, & I'm thinking a slightly larger revolver might be a better choice.
I think a 3" M60 with fixed sights would be ideal - too bad S&W doesn't produce it :banghead:
That said, I'm considering the following (loosely in order of preference & NIB):
The 3" Taurus M85 is also a consideration, I currently own a PT940 & used to own a 2" M85 in blue. I don't know that my wife would recognize the Taurus name as she would Colt, S&W, or Ruger though.
Moving up in frame size, the M64 with a 3" barrel might also work, while petite to a degree her hands aren't tiny (she's shot my 6" 686 without much of a trigger reach issue).
The M64 with a 4" barrel might be pushing it - in the event she'd have to carry it in a purse for whatever reason (although my wife carries some big purses!)
If I did decide to go with a 4", I'd also consider the M10.
To my question: what are the street prices I should expect for a NIB? Has anyone made a recent purchase of an M60, M85, M64, or M10, or kept an eye on prices & can offer some guidelines? I've been out of the buying loop for a little while (college tuition gets in the way), so maybe my impression is wrong but it seems like some of the prices on Gunbroker & Guns America are higher than what you see in the display cases at the local retail outlets. Previously, I used those prices as a guide when shopping, adding something in so the small local guy can earn a living. If I do that now, in some cases I'd be paying over MRSP.
Any help is appreciated - I really want to do this over the next few days & surprise my wife when she gets home on Sunday.
