Was looking at an old thread and wanted to find info about how to go about building an M1A.
With the prices of Springfield M1As, is there still a way to get Armscorps receivers and parts kits at
a resonable price?

The CMP still has M14 parts kits available, $600 for the Grade A kit that includes all the semi-auto parts except the bolt, firing pin, receiver, and barrel.

I would make sure to ask over here....http://m14forum.com/m14/

If I were so inclined I'd give a barreled LRB action some consideration. I just went with a SA Scout to take advantage of the lifetime warranty and not have to tinker.

I don't think you will come out any less expensive than a complete SAI rifle. But you may come out with a somewhat higher quality rifle if you choose parts carefully and have it built well.

If you do build with GI parts be sure and inspect each part very closely. Many of the GI parts on the market are well used and may be near the end of their service life. You can measure the op-rod tab and bolt rollers should feel tight with minimal slop.

Building a M14 is not like building a AR, several special skills and tools needed for attaching barrel and setting head space. It's best left to a smith that specializes in M14's.

Thanks. I've purchased several ARs over the past 3 years and kind of knew in the back of my head that I really wanted an M1A.
It will be a while before I will be able to proceed. I have a local gunsmith that I will be working with when I gather everything.
I was wanting to know where to get a good receiver, barrel, etc and if it would be better just to buy one already built by a reputable gunsmith.

If you go the cmp parts kit route and buy a new reciever bolt and barrel most people are reporting 1500$ or so to complete it. Generally a few pieces of of the kit will need replaced, and most people are unhappy with the stocks...

Im really considering one as well
