M1911 Hammer Bite?

I use a very high grip, with both thumbs high. The stock tang safeties like shown in the pictures EAT my hand, even the longer tang on the 1991 and Springfields. I don't get 'hammer bite' unless I am shooting an old short tang long hammer gun, they are doubly nasty for me. On the long tang guns the edges of it wear/twist/rub down into my skin, it is bad enough that I get a blister in 40 rounds and bleed inside of 100 rounds.

I have faint scars on both hands from time spent with 1911 pattern guns, most of which came from time in the service where I just didn't have a choice. Now EVERY one of my 1911 pattern guns wears a beavertail grip safety. Another positive for the beavertail is that it allows me to consistently index the gun.

I run the same high grip with both thumbs high and forward on Glocks, Sigs, revolvers, everything I shoot. Glock slides will cut you in a HURRY if you grip them a little too high, but a consistent index out of the holster takes the chance away for the most part. The worst ever was a Desert Eagle 44, it nearly took my thumb off when the safety lever went by. Now I check for clearance before firing a gun I don't have any experience with.
