went for some steel banging at the range gongs yesterday. i finally got some 565 yrd footage and saw where i was hitting or more apprapriately where I was missing, didnt include that of course. the loads were consistent just not on target.

another range regular later spotted for me.

so for 565 i put the clicks 4 ciicks beyond 500(6 clicks i would have been 600 mark) i was hitting high, about half to whole ram body height using a 6 o'clock hold. the hits i had were with 3 clicks. but still 0600 hold.
so maybe 2 to 3 clicks above 500 is the way to go. is my thiniking right?

168 gr hpbt with imr 4895.

frustrating when you can only see where the bullets land after the leaving the range.

forgive the open mouth while shooting , ha ha . with biking uphill i read before that trying to envision a loose lower lip helps keep the upper body from being tense and i've shot rifle that way since. just have never seen how it looks.

also amazing how bad it turns out fiochi 223 rem is . my savage 12 shouldn't be missing at 225 yrds rested or at least miss on the same spot. i still miss especially when rushing but not inexplicably with my handloads.

this me having fun. not purporting to be a long range shooter.

Looks like a good time. Snow and all. I was hoping to get to the gun club this weekend to try out some new load recipes but looks like I'm working instead.

Definitely looks fun. I have to get back out and stretch the legs on my m 11 223 have only shot it close under 50 yds. My grandson has been going along with me. It's a skill and confidence builder for him. Will have him shoot 100 soon but it's only 12 degrees here too cold for him.

that is cold. next time i try the m1a at 565 I'll try 2 clicks above 500 and look at it in the camera afterwards. the 223 i could see with the scope if i hit it or not. my scope has a bdc reticle but i still have to kentucky windage it on the prairie dog. my aim point was the target to the left of the prairie dog.

Two years ago in the spring was the last time I shot over 500. It was cool 60 degrees and damp had rained in the morning, wind was blowing 10 - 20 mph. Took wind out of equation by shooting directly into it. Hit 15.in wide tree with 4 out of 5 used bdc lines. 500 being the last one still hit 9 in low. Measured distance with 4 wheeler odometer when I was finished shooting.
Target was acrossed corn field that was low in center. Estimated distance 550 yds.
Last time I was at that farm the field had standing wheat so no shooting.

that is cool. it was very calm that range day. the targets i shot were part of the range. they also have a 750 or 760 yrd gongs. the plates are bigger i just don't know big they are or how many clicks to adjust for it and didn't want to waste ammo on it without a spotter.

a cool thing for range estimation that's decent if you have permanent or easily identifiable structures is google earth ruler. i tested it on our city range and I'm pretty sure it was accurate. i learned this from somewhere else and wasn't my original
idea. from a hunting show i think.
