I always like the snake skin pattern ones...how bout the new ATACS camo? It is freaking awesome....if you havent seen it, google it. Oh yeah, sweeeeeet rifle.

the atacs camo is awesome. i dont think it could be painted though. its like a cross between sponge paint and digital camo.

Here's the direction I went reference camo on my scout:

I beleive the pattern you've referenced on the AR would suit your rifle well.

Are you planning to paint all the exposed metal (barrel reciever etc)?

i aappreciate the way you have your Scout set up, I beleive it's "just right" for the scout.

I have a Socom that I want to do something with and that looks like the perfect set up for it.

I may need to give Vltor a call.

I'm not sure if I would paint the receiver but there is no reason you can't. How permanent of a paint job do you want? You could diy with krylon camo colors and remove it fairly easy or go with Aluma hyde and have a permanent coating, much tougher than the krylon.

This is krylon camo on a glass gi stock. I shot some matt clear over it and it's holding up much better than I thought it would.

Hey ATCDoktor,
Does that ACC muzzle break "ring" after a shot is fired? I have my Noveske AR 15 and my son says it rings after each shot. I don't hear it but I've worked in a machine shop for 35 years & I am partially deaf. I do like the fact that the muzzle flash is hidden very well with this break.

atcdDoktor:

nice paint job! nice can too. where did you get it? is it real or fake? cool non the less.

i plan on painting the receiver and barrel.....all the metal with duracoat. im a traditional man myself and i have all my standards in walnut stocks, but i wanted to do something fun for the scout.

I really like the camo pattern on your AR. Sure, go ahead and do something like it for the scout. The nice thing about those fiberglass/plastic stocks is you can rattle can them to match any season!

Not a thing wrong with painting the receiver, either.

Those Vltor stocks are cool... I ordered mine back in September and still haven't got it.

Skipbo, thanks for the compliments on the paint job.

The can is an AAC 762SD, its real and is pretty effective on the Scout.

Does that ACC muzzle break "ring" after a shot is fired?

It rings but on this particular gun isnt that bad.

My AR's and SIG 556's have AAC Blackout mounts and they ring considerably when the suppressor's not mounted.

You get used to it after a while.

atcdoktor,
do you need that flash suppressor to mount your can with? how much do those things run? i would love to have one on my scout because of the loud blast it produces.

Skipbo, the AAC Blackout flash suppressor is required to mount the can.

As far as what it would cost to suppress your rifle is concerned, it's somewaht expensive.

You could almost buy another M1A for what it would cost to set your rifle up like mine.

The cost for my set up is as follows:

AAC 762SD suppressor $ 800.00
AAC 18 tooth Blackout mount $100.00
Delta P Design 5/8 X 24 TPI adapter $125.00
Schuster adjustable gas plug $50.00
NFA Tax Stamp for the suppressor $200.00

Total- $1275.00

nice,
do you use certain sub sonic ammo for it? what kind of noise reduction do you get? do you even need ear protection?

I have used subsonics in this rifle but they won't cycle the bolt. I have to manually cycle the bolt to eject the cases with subs.

On full power ammo the suppression is good but not as good as a bolt gun.

There is a lot of action noise (compared to a bolt action) and a lot of gas escapes through the action (as the bolt opens to eject the case excess gas is forced down the barrel and out the chamber).

The Schuster Adjustable gas block helps to eliminate some of the gas but it can't eliminate all of it.

If I had to compare what my scout sounds like suppressed I'd say it sounds like a 22 magnum fired from a rifle.

I used this set up last month in Texas on a hog hunt and it worked really well.

cant you also just turn your gas completely off at the gas tube?

thanks for all the info. that is one sweet set up you have there.

well, i do like the tope color i have on there now. i was wondering also if i should just paint the whole gun a solid color, like a greenish FDE or tigerstripe brown.
