poorman's approach:

1) 1, 2, or 3 old washcloths
2) duct tape
3) masking tape
4) skateboard tape

a) cover buttstock around buttplate with masking tape (@ 2" wide) to protect the wood finish

b) fold washcloth(s) to desired thickness and secure to buttplate with several pieces of duct tape (color of duct tape is up to individual)

c) if duct tape surface is 'slippery' the shooter could cut a piece of skateboard tape to cover the duct tape and gain some 'friction' so rifle doesn't slip when firing or operating bolt to unload and reload the rifle

I found LimbSaver small sized slip-on recoil pads to be the best for Mosins. First of all, with one on, you can shoot all day.
Secondly, Mosins are addictive, you WILL own more than one and the slip-on can move from gun to gun.

Outstanding poster, Armoredman.

Thats the same recoil pad I have on my Mosins. I really can shoot all day with that baby on. Sure beats the hell outta that steel butt plate! :uhoh:

God! I love my Mosins!

I wonder how Mr. Mosin and Mr. Nagant would feel about their creation being used as capitalist big-boy-toys?:D
