Howdy, everyone,

I got an M48 for Christmas from my dad (sidenote: no, you can't be his kid, too; it's been tried. :D ), and about the second time I took it to the range, I started having serious trigger problems with the thing. I could pull the trigger straight back as far as it would go -- no boom. I could yank on it as hard as I could -- no boom. The only thing that'd make it boom was some kind of ethereal pulling the trigger back and then wiggling it from side to side, which would result in a surprising, suspicious, flinch-inducing BOOM.

So it was all very suspicious, and I thought there was going to have to be some kind of modification or sending to a gunsmith or replacement parts and cost involved; and I almost posted a thread here, until I was sitting 'front my computer, and I reached over to pluck my M48, and gripped it tightly when I felt something zig when it oughta' have done a whole lot of not moving. I discovered, mere moments away from embarassing myself in front of the entire internet, that the trigger guard was in the way of the trigger moving all the way back, and it was doing this because I hadn't screwed in the :cuss: :cuss: trigger guard screws all the way!

Moral of this story: When you're reassembling a K98/M48/M48A, make sure you screw the two Big (trigger guard/group) screws all the way in, THEN lock them in with the little screws, because you can still "lock" the big screws without them being in all the way.
