Can anyone tell me if there are any Springfield Armory M6 Scouts still around in your local gun stores? I mean the model with the paddle trigger not the one with the pistol grip. Looking to get one when I get back to the states in a few months and would like to know availability.

thanks

I've never heard of a problem getting them. I have seen them in pawn shops. Although they wear various brands, the ones I've seen have been made by CZ, so you are closer to their source than we are.

The CZ stamp on the receiver is not from CZ USA...only Springfield Armory owns the rights for this gun. It is produced under license for SA by a Czech company. CZ just means made in Czech Republic. And buying firearms in Germany is next to impossible anyway.

My original point is that SA has stopped manufacturing them and I wanted to know how many new guns were still around.

Ive seen a couple of them around here. They might have been in the shop for awhile, but they don't seem all that scarce at the moment. I havent really been looking for them though, so things may have changed.

Well, location may be everything, but I was looking for one a couple of months ago and as far as I could learn, S, Inc. has not shipped any in something close to a year and finding new ones with dealers is tough. I made probably two dozen calls and found 2, both .22LR. The Hornet version is almost impossible to find.

You should go over to the discussion forum at www.savage24.com and see what you can learn from the folks there. The M6 Scout is close to their hearts, since it's also a combination gun.

I have seen a few at show recently. Not as common as they were at once. However, with a little looking I think you'll be fine finding a .22 one. Not sure about the Hornet version, that might take more time/luck.

I got mine for $125 about a year ago. Was "used" (no box). Should be able to get into one for under $200.

They were discontinued, actually... good luck finding one, but the supplies are limited.

Just as a point of refrence:

I am aware that SA stopped selling the M6...don't know why and they aren't saying.

CZ stamped M6's are not from CZ USA...they are actually made (were) by another company called CZ, as CZ only means 'Czech Arms Factory'.

an email I sent and the reply (these folks are nice for even responding!)

dotaz: Was the Springfield Armory M6 Scout Rifle manufactured by the
CZ corporation? I've noticed a few of these rifles with a CZ stamp
and I was curious about it.
If Springfield Armory no longer sells this rifle, does Ceska
Zbrojovka plan on marketing it?

respectfully,

Jacob Quesenberry

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your interest in the firearms produced in the
Czech Republic. The M6 Scout Rifle is not made by our company,
despite the fact that there is a CZ stamp.
Ceska Zbrojovka simply means Czech Arms Factory and the companies
bearing this name are differentiated by the town they are located. We
are Ceska Zbrojovka located in the town of Uhersky Brod and the M6
Scout Rifle is made by another company bearing the same name but
located in the town of Strakonice. Unfortunatelly we do not know
here what are the business plan of that company regarding the rifle
of your interest. Anyway products we currently produce are on our
website and there are also firearms we produce during our history.

Yours faithfully,

Milan Kubele

now then, the CZ that did production for SA was actually the same CZ that imports the CZ-75 and others through ADCO Sales Inc. at www.adcosales.com .

Apparently the CZ in Strakonice claims to be the original company that existed prior to the Soviet occupation. During the occupation the Reds moved the factory farther from the border to protect it from capitalist aggression and the old factory fell into disrepair. After the occupation at least two different companies laid claim to the CZ heritage (probably both justifiably) and opened their doors for business. One in the original town of Strakonice and the other in Uhersky Brod(CZ USA).

*deepbreath* and exhale...

Thats all I've been able to dig up for now, other than the fact that SA does own the rights to the M6 Scout and has no current plans for production. Truely a shame.

Truly a shame. These are really handy knock-around items for camping, boats, backpacking, etc. Not too shabby for casual plinking or introducing young'uns to shooting, either.

Even with the weird bar trigger and rudimentary sights it's surprisingly accurate with the .22 barrel. I've taken a rabbit or two with the .410 on mine using #5 shot, but the pattern opens up a bunch past 20 yds or so.

Worth doing some looking around for, IMO. Heaps better than the old Garcia "Bronco" and a pile cheaper than a decent Savage M24.

FWIW, the new IZH-94 combo gun that EAA is bringing in from Baikal in .22/.410 might be a good alternative if you can't find an M-6. Suggested retail is $199, and they should be widely discounted. Haven't handled one yet, but pics are interesting. I may well buy one and see if I can knock off the strange open rear sight blade and replace it with one of Williams' FP outfits made to attach to the dovetail scope mount on .22s and airguns.

I knew about EAA's offerings, but have you been to the site recently? The only thing you can select is handguns under firearms. I wonder whats up. Must've had a falling out with Saiga or whoever their supplier is/was. Also there links page reflects the change. Only Tangfolio (and Baikal) are available...and Baikal only had the airguns.

Either way, I really want/need/must possess the M6 Scout (with the CZ stamp, heard good things about that one) but I don't want to pay out the nose for it. Though I realize that SA's decision to stop selling them will create an artificial price jump.

Don't know whether EAA is on the verge of some sort of implosion or what. Hopefully, Baikal is shopping for another importer or setting up their own outfit a la CZ-USA. Maybe we'll see more of their unique product offerings (like a LH version of the Biathlon Basic) once EAA is out of the picture.

IIWY, I'd hit every gunshow of reasonable size I could get to in the next couple of months. Hopefully, you'll be able to get a nice one before the real price gouging kicks-in as the word gets around more and demand picks up.

Remington picked up Baikal, under their Sportsman (IIRC) brand.

As for the Scout, I seen three or four on teh shelves of a Sporting Goods store here just a few days ago. I want to say the price was $175, but don't quote me, I didn't pay them much more than a cursory glance.
