I was just given close to 300 bullets from bullet pulls. These are from M72 Match 30-06 ammo. I have tumbled the bullets and will soon be using lighter fluid to clean the 'tar' off of them. The bullets have no deformation from being pulled.

I want to load these for my Garand. I will be using once fired Greek brass. All brass has been processed, trimmed, and primer pockets brought to SAAMI dims. All cases have been tested for shoulder using a Dillion cartridge headspace gage. I am using IMR4895 (in an attempt to recreate the load from the M72).

I have read that some of these bullets from bullet pulls have been deformed during the tear down process. What should I look for? Will I be good to go? And finally, what loads do you (The High Road group) use in this bullet weight for a Garand? Thanks in advance.

Were the bullets resized? Some get out of round slightly. While fine for general shooting, I stick to my favorite Sierras for a match when allowed to supply personal ammo.

Just load them and shoot them. If you weigh them, you will find that bullet weights commonly vary as much as two grains. Any sort of distoration due to pulling is going to be in the noise level in a Garand.

I have ammo boxes of pulled 174's. I use them in load development. They will shoot just above 1 MOA. Funny thing, my groups are tighter with White Box match ammunition from the era than with the same bullets in my reloads.

I would load them with 46.5 to 47.0 grains IMR 4895, OAL LT 3.30".

Yep. LC M72 Match was loaded with any where's from 46.0gr to 48.0gr of IMR4895, depending upon the burn rate of the powder for that particular year's production. Personally, I use 46.5gr.
