I have around 300 empty Greek brass that has been shot out of my Garand. I want to reload for it, but every piece of load data I see uses new bullets (Hornady, Sierra MK, etc.). At around $30 for a box of 100, the price adds up pretty quick, especially since it's impossible to shoot an enbloc clip and call it a day.

I did an internet search and came across this website (http://www.iidbs.com/hitech.zkb?root&GENMENU601D&object-menu6) that sells pulled 147 gr. Israeli military surplus bullets.

Has anyone dealt with this supplier, or any other supplier with milsurp bullets? If from another place, how are they price-wise and how well do the bullets perform (I don't expect these to shoot as well as Sierra MKs or the like)? Did they come all marred up from being pulled?

Also, from all the Garand load data I've seen, they all start with 150gr bullets. Is there any disadvantage of using 147gr in a Garand? Is it close enough to 150gr to be used without any problems?

I was in the same boat as you, and purchased the 147gr M80 FMJ-BT pulled bullets from Hi-Tech. At 11 cents each for the Israeli pulldown/polished version, they're hard to beat for plinking and informal targets. (Their 55gr and 62gr pulled bullets for the AR-15 are also very nice, at a hard-to-beat price.)

My bullets came in good shape, well-packaged, with the bullets themselves displaying insignificant marks from the pulling operation. I see no problem with using them in the M1 Garand, since they're all of 2% lighter than the 150gr standard. YMMV.

The M-80 pulls used to be a good deal (I paid $.05 each for mine a few years back), but to pay nearly $.15 each now is simply being penny wise and pound foolish. You will not be able to develop accurate loads with them. For about $.03 more, you can occasionally buy Nosler Custom Competition 2nd's, which are a MUCH better bullet.

wideners for awhile had alot of 150gr flat bases that helped make up one of my best garand loads. the best plinking load i have now i'm using 147 gr military pulls, not israeli however. i would never argue with "USSR" who has helped me many times before, but ironically the 3-4" clusters i can make with them is good enough for me. i tried the hornady 150, good, but not as good as the 147s, one thing i have read , here, and on other boards as well, a good bullet makes the most profound impact on accuracy. also i've read many times, you will have to find a load (bullet) that works well in your rifle.

I am quite happy with the accuracy that comes from using the Greek M2 Ball ammo. Shoots exceptionally well out of my Garand. That being said, I think I will give these 147gr a try, especially at under 7cents a bullet.

Thanks for the link 1KPerDay. I will gladly support a THR member.

Look at the RMR 175 SMK pulled projectiles in the Reloading Sales ad in the classifieds. They look to be a really good value for 175 gn SMKs, which with the right powder behind it, will shoot "lights out" from a Garand. As a matter of fact, I just posted some loads for the M1 in the reloading forum.

i just baught 200 slugs(308) for around 11 bucks all together, baught 100 frangable rounds(dont see them listed anymore) and 100 m19 plastic training rounds, from hi-tech ammo

they sell all kinds of pull downs, and it looks to most likely be one of the cheapest, i dont reload 30-06, but i think that the 30-06 uses the 308's
