Hello there, I am very eager to snatch up a great deal before it's too late, and someone could beat me to it any minute. I'm stumped and if anyone can help me with their opinion or facts asap I'd greatly appreciate it. I'd really like to buy a gorgeous 'Cimarron' 1911, for a decent price, but Cimarron is not on the MA list... However... Cimarron is just an importer, not a manufacturer. The gun is in actuality a dressed up (better finish) Armscor 1911-A1, which is the very first model on the current 'MA-approved roster.' Armscor is even stamped into the bottom of the frame in front of the trigger guard, even though it's supposed to be a 'Cimarron.' Can anyone tell me if this wouldn't be legal to transfer to me in MA from another state, because Cimarron isn't on the list, or is it fine and legal because it is really an Armscor, which is on 'the list'? Again if anyone can help with this technicality I would appreciate it very much.

I'm guessing this is a auction item given the sense of urgency. Wouldn't a MA FFL be the best one to ask? I'd imagine they are versed in what can and can't be transferred to a resident of the State.

Indeed, sent a message to my favorite local FFL, but as you are correct in the item being up for grabs by others, I'm hoping there's one perusing the forums who could get back to me sooner :)

I would be very wary.

You do not want to be accused of encouraging someone out of state to ship a gun which becomes contraband when it enters Massachusetts.

the gun wouldnt really become 'contraband'........because in MA, the list is only what dealers can transfer......not what you can own....

it is 100% legal to own guns that are not on the list, you just can get them from a dealer(most likely from someone who moved from out of state and sold them to you FTF)

so there really isnt any risk to you......but the FFL may get in some trouble if he transfers it to you....

so if you want a definitive answer, ask your FFL......

Thanks for the input everybody. My favorite local FFL got back to me and says that even though the Armscor/Rock Island 1911 is at the top of 'The List,' it still doesn't pass the Attorney General's "Consumer Protection Regulations." (WHY HAVE A LIST IF IT DOESN'T EVEN MATTER!?!?!?!? :barf:)

I've read up on it and if they want to sell it in MA, gun manufacturers need to pay x mount of money, and send in an example of the gun to be tested by one of very few labs, then it's the manufacturer's responsibility to send the results to the correct desk, where they may possibly sit indefinitely without action. I no longer hold anything against any manufacturers who aren't MA legal, because even if they do everything they can, they may only be 'half legal' for all of eternity. I CAN NOT WAIT TO MOVE OUT OF THIS STATE, I was only born here!

I am under the impression now that The AG's Consumer Protection Regulations have NOTHING to do with safety, and are just an excuse to admit only guns made in MA, or that are expensive enough to bring decent amounts of sales tax into the state's pockets...

and yet here's a thread I found where someone says they recently bought a very similar gun to the one I want, here in MA. I'd love to know where he bought it or had it transferred:

I don't know if this is lawful or not but, depending on how bad you want this gun in MA, or one's like it, become an FFL: take it into inventory and leave it there.

Of course, if that's not legal then file the suggestion in the waste basket of bad ideas.

:)

i'd love to be an FFL for many reasons, as far as in MA though I hope to move to a better place soon. Vermont and Maine are my top considerations. Can't wait to celebrate by getting a Coonan .357

don't think I'll ever find a better deal on that Cimarron high-polish 1911 though,

In hear that. Coonan is high on my list as is a Dan Wesson Guardian .45acp.

If only I could pass on a great Smith or Colt revolver long enough to save up for one of those...

A local dealer has ordered in a couple Coonan's @ around $1300, I wish, I wish...

I hear you on the Smiths and Colts popping up to take your savings :) and dang that's more than I expected, I think the older Coonan model B's are going for 800-1000, I'll go with whatever's cheaper when the time comes.

Ma has 2 lists the EOPS list and the super secret double hand shake list from the AG's office.
No one but the AG knows what's on the list. Unless the pistol/handgun is on BOTH lists a dealer can't sell or transfer it. There is a caveat though,if you can find one for sale from a private party in Ma perfectly legal to buy it. You will have to file an FA 10 form to register the pistol to you.
