Maddox Invited To Range

A few weeks ago MatthewVanitas asked me if I'd invite Maddox out to the range since we live in the same city. I'm back in town and finally have a few free weeks of downtime so I dropped Maddox a line:

Hi,

I was told by some members of THR (thehighroad.org) that you may be interested in going out to a shooting range and shooting some guns. I’m planning on taking my British friend to the range since he has never fired a gun before and you are more than welcome to join us.

I work for a company called __________ in Salt Lake City, it is a company that makes gear for musicians and bands, I also play guitar and sing for a local rock band. I’m telling you this so that you don’t think I’m some fat old gun freak.

Important thing: he's a very popular blogger with the 14-24 set. Everything he writes gets millions of hits. Further: he seems the kind of guy who's open to new experiences.

Tell you the truth, I didn't know what to write because it felt like I was asking him out on a date. I actually felt like starting the e-mail with "Dude, I'm not gay..."

I wouldn't limit Maddox's audience to such a young group. I've been reading for years and I'm 32 now. I know plenty of real adults who really get a kick out of his stuff. Its really funny material for the most part. He's written a few funny articles about PETA. I think he sells a T-shirt that says "for every animal you don't eat, I'll eat 2"

I've read Maddox on and off for a few year's now, and while he's definately got some funny stuff, he doesn't seem like the kinda of guy I'd want at the range with me. I don't know what it is, but he doesn't seem like the kind of individual that would be able to responsibly handle a firearm. I'm not saying he'd shoot up the place, but I could easily see him whipping a gun around and pointing it all kinds of things/people despite having been given a thorough lesson in gun safety. Hopefully I'm wrong, but that's the kind of impression I get from him.

We're getting back to the ol' Ashton Kutcher argument again: there's a huge difference between someone's "character" and their real personality.

I'd say it's pretty likely that he's a very reasonable guy in person.

It would be massively cool to see a pic of him shooting, while wearing his pirate hat...

He has worked very hard on the website, and he has a very good education, and a steady job. He is not a moron, and providing that he is interested in a range trip, there is no reason to believe he could not be responsible.

I've always loved Maddox's website. Not only is he a pirate, but he's better than your kids.

If you do get him to the range, I"ll be considerably upset if there isn't a thorough range report with pics.

That said, I'd be amazingly surprised if he responded.
