IF you want a S&W restored the way S&W used to do it, try these guys. When I needed an old M&P worked on, S&W referred me to them. They refer all the older S&W work to them.

What Lube?
I curious as to what gun oil you use? It should have protected the steel better then it did.
Years ago I read about some gun cases having rust problems due to the glue used with the foam padding.
I had a Python rust in a case under my car seat at Fort Benning GA. I was called out of town before I could put it away.
This was before CLP. Having had any problem since.

I honestly just wipe her down with the same lubricating oil that comes in cleaning kits.
