Just to make sure I'm not overlooking anything obvious- colt, kimber, s&w, sti, dan wesson, para? Then at what price point do you start finding the springfields to be made in the U.S.?

Since "american made" is a can of worms (assembly vs all parts etc), lets just stick to whatever criteria it is that keeps "made in (country other than the U.S.)" off of the slide. And unless LB, EB, nighthawk etc have something for under a grand, I can forget the semi custom makes.

Para is Canadian
S&W makes a 1911, I believe the are made in the good old U.S.A.

Springfields are assembled and fitted at best in the U.S. All of their frames and slides for the 1911s are forged in Brazil by Imbel. Good stuff though. Not a drawback in my eyes!

Ok, a few more options then. Thanks for the info.

JR- any clue if any of the springfields don't have made in brazil on them, or is it that if their slides are made there then it's going to be stamped that way?

Based on what I have read, and this may depend on the date of manufacture, the 1911s that are assembled in the U.S. and have over half of the work(labor, fitting steps??) completed in the states are not required to have a Brazil stamp on them. This is even though the frames and slides are all forged in Brazil. Most information I have read also says that the NM prefix in the serial number is a clue that the > 50% level was met and the made in USA applies. YMMV.
I have held a few NM Springfields and they seem somewhat tighter than my N serial SS Loaded.

Anyone know of any springfield models that are not stamped "made in brazil", and at what price they start? Thanks.

So over a grand, but no MIB stamp anyways. Great, thanks DH. BTW do your TRP's have the key and lock feature under the grip safety? I see that in a picture but they don't say which model it is.

I just read a gunblast shoot-off among Springfield, S&W, Kimber, and RRA including the TRP. It was funny reading the different responses from some of the semi custom manufacturers to the request of getting a test model from them. Some denied for various reasons, and some were outright dicks about it, but springfield sent FOUR different models to test and the TRO won the accuracy component (9.16ths of an inch)!

NM serial Mil-Specs and Loaded models are out there. WW (GI milspecs) serials are Brazillian manufacture. You have to look at the individual guns to see if the MIB stamp is there. So with luck you can get a SA NM serial Mil-Spec for $600 or so. Note the "with luck" part. A Loaded NM serial should be about $800 or so.YMMV
