I thought SCOTUS said the previous extension they granted was the final extension they would grant.

Madigan Seeks Second Extension On Concealed Carry Appeal

June 17, 2013 11:56 AM

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) – Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is asking the U.S. Supreme Court for more time to decide whether to appeal a lower court’s order saying citizens should be allowed to publicly carry concealed guns.

Madigan already got one extension — until June 24 — to challenge the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that said a ban on concealed firearms is unconstitutional. Now she wants until July 24.

I'm not sure what Quinn/Madigan are thinking here. IL is the last state in the union to hold out against this, but the writing is clearly on the wall. Why delay the inevitable?

Side note: do you ever get excited when you see one of your guns pictured in a news article? That is clearly a 3rd gen SW with the optional curved backstrap, much like my first gun, a 4506.

I thought SCOTUS said the last extension they just received was the final one they would be getting?

Doesn't stop them from asking.

Doesn't mean they'll be granted the extension, either! :p

Just think about how this would be going if the shoe was on the other foot. There probably wouldn't have been an initial extension.

The 7th is the one that said it was the last extension. This is an extension from SCOTUS on the deadline to appeal. Two different things.

Ah, ok.

I wonder if SCOTUS will grant her the extension.

Anyone else remember how long Blago go got to remain in that chair after he got caught? Every day they stall for time is a victory; especially if the writing is on the wall.

remember...these blackrobed few just...

made it a-ok for police to retrieve your DNA, without warrant, upon arrest (not conviction) of a felony....

made it your duty to inform, that you're invoking your right to be silent upon any law enforcement contact

so, in between these casses why not add an extention, to the extention of the previous decision(s)? Shucks they might even rule against their own initial ruling...nothing suprises me anymore

Done deal

The extension for consideration has already been granted until July 22nd.

It's for her to "consider" an appeal for Cert at SCOTUS, probably supported by Kagan and Sotomayer.

As previously posted the 30 day extension to July 9th, to ostensibly "allow Governor Quinn to read and consider the bill", was granted by the Appellate Court not SCOTUS. That hasn't moved and the Appellate Court made it very clear - "No More Extensions".

The odds are probably around 80/20 against her appealing the appellate decision, since it will put May Issue at risk. Notice how suddenly silent loudmouth Bloomberg is on all this? The last thing he wants is his beloved and profitable May Issue system thrown out.

Heaven forbid that the peasants are allowed to carry!

So now the June 24th deadline is dead?

SCOTUS gave her until July 22nd to decide if she wants to appeal to SCOTUS?

Guess she's waiting to see what Quinn decides then she'll make her move.
