Mag possibly fell out of M&P9mm?

Some of the posts made me laugh since they're so off topic. It was about a magazine falling out while carrying, not while shooting. It was under my gut in my waistband in a holster that totally protected the mag release. No biggie. I still have 3 out of 4 mags.

I had a Glock 31 magazine disengage. It didn't fall out, but if I had to use it it would have been a single shot weapon. I also could have lost a $120 magazine, as this was during the AWB. The Glock had a standard magazine release and was carried in a Blade-Tech IWB.

Because of that, I sold my G31 and G19, along with all their magazines (I made so much money right before the AWB ended :uhoh: ) and started shooting and carrying revolvers, specifically S&W K-frames with 3 and 4" barrels. 4 years later I'm back carrying an auto, but Sig's profile their magazine releases so that it would be extremely difficult, bordering on impossible, for it to disengage without purposely pushing the button with a fingertip.

Defensory, what's your malfunction? You seem to be obsessed with running down M&Ps.

Fact is the vast majority of M&Ps haven't had any problems at all, and the few that have were generally resolved by S&W with no drama.

The XD torture test isn't near as meaningless as your entire post.

No need to be insulting. I just feel torture tests like that don't apply to the real world use of a pistol.

Walter, could it be possible the mag wasn't seated completely? Stuff happens to all guns, whether Defensory wants to admit it or not. The entire reason there's a "tap-rack-bang" drill is because it's possible to load a mag but not get it latched in. Other than that, I'd lean towards an incidental bump of the mag-releas, likely when bending over, getting in/out of a car, etc. If there's a possibility of holster flex, it's at these times.

Depends on how the holster design was made to 'protect' the magazine catch button. I've seen the occasional holster which permitted an IWB holster to flex inward and depress the magazine catch button, releasing a magazine.

For that matter, I've seen some OWB holsters permit the magazine catch to sometimes be pressed during flexing and movement of the wearer.

Also, some folks have 'more' flesh to press against the magazine catch of a pistol carried IWB ... whether it be padding or muscle ;) ... than some other folks.

I remember when this used to happen with my Colt Commander when I first carried it a young (and skinny) cop, using some IWB holster I can't remember. Annoying.

Look under the seat of your vehicle if you haven't already.

Seat belt latches, especially Chevy truck in my experience, have a nasty habit of releasing magazines and moving safety catches.

Look on the bright side. You could have been surrounded by gang bangers, whipped out your S&W, and there was no magazine. Of course, in all the laughter, you might have escaped.

My only "malfunction" is I'm NOT an M&P fanboy.

I OWN an M&P, friend. If I want to comment on a handgun I have personal experience with, I bloody well will.

The hard fact is, THOUSANDS of M&P's have had NUMEROUS problems, some of which still have not been rectified.

Smith has ALWAYS had problems with their semi-autos. The Sigma was an absolute disaster from the get-go. The M&P hasn't been much better.

There's nothing insulting about telling the plain truth.

Your previous post doesn't apply to the real world, since everything you said was completely anecdotal, unsupported opinion.

The hard fact is, the XD has withstood a documented and witnessed torture test even more extreme than the Glock torture test. And the XD in question was "dealer shelf" stock.

Thus far, Smith hasn't volunteered the M&P for a similar test. Wisely so, because they know it won't survive the test.

1. My only "malfunction" is I'm NOT an M&P fanboy.

Boy, where to start?!?!

1. No, you aren't a fanboy. You appear to be just the opposite...someone who makes sweeping disparaging comments without hard evidence to back it up.

2. So what specifically is the problem with your M&P? Did you send it to S&W to get serviced? Details? S&W's service department has a well deserved reputation. When I sent my M&P in for rust on the slide they replaced it and threw in a pair of Trijicon night sights and an extra magazine.

3. Evidence? Where did you get your thousands number? How does the M&P problem rate compare to the 100's of thousands S&W has produced and how does it compare to other manufacturers? I suspect you have no hard evidence to back up these claims or to compare them to other manufacturers.

4. This is patently false. S&W steel and alloy framed autos have been used by U.S. police forces for years and years with stellar results. They fell out of favor when the less expensive, higher capacity and lighter weight Glock became available.

The Sigma, S&W's first polymer semi-auto, did have teething problems but they are long a thing of the past. There were a few teething issues with the M&P as well. For example the mag catch was redesigned as well as the firing pin.

For your information Glock has made many changes as well, since it was first adopted by some police forces, to improve it's reliablity and performance. Glock, at one point, almost lost it's NYPD contract because of FTF jams that locked the gun up.

That is why you always have one in the chamber right?

"I can only kill one of you. Who is willing to take one for the team?" :)

Seriously I have had no issues w/ dropped mags on my M&P (purchased Mar 2008).

I have no doubt it is a problem but the internet tends to skew things, just like the media.

The media doesn't do a story on the hundreds of thousands of flights that land safely every year, they write about the one that doesn't.
People don't start a thread about how their M&P never seems to fail. they start a thread about one that does.

Once again a thread is closed due to the absolute inability (or so it appears) of certain members to keep their act in check. If you cannot post here without getting into a war, please don't post. I am beginning to see a trend here, which is the same rude posts with the same names attached.

If I had an argumentative post below THR standards in this thread, I think that I would take heed when told that I am just about 1" from being permanently banned.

For some on this thread, there will be no more warnings. You will simply be permanently banned and will realize that your antics got too old when you can no longer log on to THR.

Final warning for some.
