I love my Glock 19, and it has been nothing but reliable through about 700 rounds. Last time I went shooting, after about 200 rounds, halfway through a mag, I had a stovepipe jam, and then the mag fell out. Any ideas why this happened?

Gun is brand new. Could it be that i didnt insert the mag all the way in before firing?

You probably failed to fully seat the magazine. Its always worth giving the but of the magazine a good sharp upward smack after inserting just to make sure it is seated.

Was the slide locked back or not when you inserted the magazine? If it was not locked back then I would almost bet you simply didn't get the magazine fully locked into place.

it was not locked back. I havent had any problems since, but i was confused because it shot about 5 rounds before it happened.

I'll back what the fellas above said. Either it wasn't seated properly and just managed to hang in there for the first few rounds before dropping out, or you bumped the mag release button while shooting. I've dropped the mag of my 1911 a few times before while shooting due to my grip being a little off.

Long story short - shoot on, good Sir!
