Had a malfunction with a Glock 23 I haven't seen before in a semi-auto (only been shooting semi's for maybe 2 years though). After firing, the spent casing ejected properly but the next round went nose up and prevented the slide from fully returning to battery, being wedged upright between the slide and the barrel. I inspected the round; seemed fine. I marked the magazine and shot another 20-30 rounds from the same mag without issue.

My question is whether I'm correct in assuming this was most likely a problem with the magazine, or if it may be another issue like the recoil spring. If a mag problem, is it a problem with the mag spring or with the feed lips? Something else?

When Ive had bullets go vertical in the mags its generally because the follower became stuck on crud, dirt, grime etc. Weak springs will make this issue happen more and more.

Id take it apart and clean it. Try a new spring. If that doesnt solve it garbage can it.

It could be that the mag spring needs to be replaced, the magazine is dirty or the feed lips are out of spec.

I suggest you change the mag spring, and clean the mag while it is a part. See if that works. If not, then it might be your feed lips and in that case throw that mag away and don't look back.

Magazines are expendable items.

Thanks all. Going to clean it, and I might as well order a Wolff magazine spring as well.
