I went to the range and shot a few guns, including a range Glock 19. I plan on getting a Glock and have 2 older high capacity magazines that I brought with me. On the new 10 round and on one of my high capacity mags, it holds the slide open after the last round. On my second mag, the slide goes forward after the last shot.

I made a physical inspection of the magazine in question against a fully functioning one and it seems to look the same. I took it apart and cleaned it but it still malfunctions. The RO said I have some real old mags that don't even have the button underneath to dissassemble them. The baseplate just slides off (with some pressure)

Any ideas? Should I order a new follower or spring? Does Glock give away their new follower for malfunctioning magazines?

I dunno squat about Glocks, but dirty chamber, insufficient lube, weak mag spring???

Glock is very good about replacing any part that is not functioning per specs. Give a call to their warranty/customer service department in Smyrna and explain the problem. The odds are very good that they will simply send you what you need at no cost.

Im not sure if iI understand. But mine locks the slide open when the mag is empty. If it is closing on an empty mag. Your mag could be defective.

Sounds like a weak spring if you ask me. Yank out ouf of your new 10 rounders and drop it into the normal capacity mag. Should be the same size (IIRC) since Glock just puts little ribs on the side of the castrated magazines to keep rounds 11+ from going in there.

Giga is right it's your mag springs as long as your not pushing the slide release while you are shooting with your thumb. do a search on www.glocktalk.com and you should find the problem

Thanks for the tips. I'm not hitting the release with my thumb. I can actually pull the slide all the way back on the empty mag and let it go forward on an empty chamber. Next time I go to the range I'll swap out the spring and see if that solves the problem.

Glock will rebuild the mag free and pay return postage back to you. All you need to do is mail the defective mag to Glock with a note describing the problem. You don't need to call.

If you mail it be sure to insure it for whatever it's worth to you, if you had rather spend your money on a phone call instead of postage, then call Glock at 770-432-1202 and tell them what size magazine you have and that it is non-full metal lined (has the U at the top, right? - otherwise it's full metal lined) - Tell them that it is not holding the slide open after the last rd is fired and ask for a new spring & follower, and then tell them you want to update the floor plate to one that uses a insert, so you'll get an insert and floor plate with a hole - then you'll be good to go. If it is for a model 19, the spring for the full capacity (15 rds) is different than the 10 rd - the full capacity mag spring # is SP 02429 , one for the 10 rd mag is # SP 02316. If you don't want to wait on them to mail the parts - which they usually do pretty quick - and you know a Glock dealer or armorer, they may have the parts on hand for about $12 to $15.

Since it isn't your G19 you have no way of knowing what kind of maintenance it has received. Get your G19 first, test the mags, then if you have problems with the mags start by replacing the springs and followers.
