I'm a big fan of 1911s, but the ones I own are all govt size 5". I am considering a Kimber Compact CDP II for a 4" to give me another option for my carry rigs.

I realize the gun takes 7rd mags. I am partial to the Wilson 47D 8rd mags for my 1911s, and would like to get something similar in a 7rd that would properly fit the 4" Kimber. I see that Wilson offers a 47OX and a 47OXC. Which would be the proper fit? Would an 8rd fit, but stick out the bottom about an extra 1/2" ?

Also, I'm very partial to my MS VMII for my 1911s. I also have one for my Glock 30. Anyone like to sell me a VMII for a 4" ? :)

Have you thought about the Kimber Pro sized models? You won't have to buy new mags.

I have also been looking at the Pro models. I may take a better look at them now.

Thanks,
Jeff

I own as used in competition for awhile with a Kimber 4" Custom CDP which performed flawlessly. McCormicks do not run well in the gun but the Wilsons have never let me down both the 7 round and the 8 round mags. My Compact had the short grip not the full length 1911 frame so with the 8 round mags they extended well below the gun but if you use Wilson low profile bases it isn't bad. I still carry this piece but with 7 round mags with medium base.

I ordered a compact CDP II yesterday. It should be arriving at my FFL today along with a couple of wilson 7 rd mags. I'll try to post up some pics when I get it, and I plan to give a range report this weekend when I start breaking it in.

My Tactical Custom II will be glad to have one of his "brothers" show up. :)

Does this gun have a shorter butt frame than your five-inch guns, or the same length? If it is the same length - making the gun about the same size as a Colt Commander - you can use the magazines you already have. If it has a shortened butt frame you want magazines made for the "Officer's ACP" or similar. These were originally six rounds, but modern ones now carry seven. You can still use the full length magazines but they will stick out the bottom and do not have a travel stop to prevent you from ramming them in too far.

I believe the Kimber "compact" models are the same dimensions as an "Officer" model. The butt frame is 1/2" shorter than the Govt. models. I am getting 2 Wilson 7rd mags to try out. I'm getting one that is flat and fits flush with the mag well, and the other has a low profile base.
