Magazine problems with Remington 7615

Have you tried it with a loaded magazine to see if it will actually feed?

Have not loaded the magazine

I don't want to chance a really big malfunction by cycling ammo back and forth. Besides with nothing in the mag, the bolt won't pass over the magazine. It's like the lips of the magazine are blocking the ability of the bolt to go back or forth over the magazine. I've tried different magazines, but no joy..

Is the bolt hanging up on the LIPS, or on the FOLLOWER?

Run the bolt back, insert magazine, stick your finger (or a pencil) into the ejection port and press the follower down a little. Can you slide the bolt forward?

Pretty sure that rifle has some sort of bolt stop to keep you from closing the bolt on an empty mag and going to a gun-fight with an empty gun.

But I have never actually handled one.

Try it with a loaded magazine and get back with us.

My Crystal ball is in the shop for a wax job until later this week.

My intuition tells me the follower is acting like a bolt hold open, not allowing you to close the bolt on an empty mag.

1) drop the empty mag, close the bolt, insert the empty mag. If it seats, then proceed to

2) insert a loaded mag and cycle the action. If it feeds a round from the mag, then this is probably normal function.

Have you the read the operators manual?

Looks like it's hanging up on the lips.

Thanks for the advice.

Owners' manual had nothing that addressed this. Pushing follower down didn't have any effect. It looks like the bolt is jamming on the lips of the magazine, and it does that not matter which direction the bolt is going. That is, if a magazine is inserted, I can't close the bolt, and if I insert a magazine after closing the bolt, then I can't open it. And yes, I've tried different magazines, including GI and Magpul.

Bummer. I really like the overall feel of this gun... Except for that glue-stick buffer pad.

That is normal for an empty magazine. Try it with a loaded magazine and it should be fine. I think. I was wrong, I was thinking of 7400. Second post today that was wrong, sorry.

Yoda, I had a 7615 that did this. The bolt is just a hair wide for some AR mags. You can generally sand / polish the bottom of the bolt, particularly the vertical edges, to fix that issue.

Yup, that pad sure is sticky and gooey. There's a good fix for that, just install a Magpul 760 butt stock. It takes some fitting as the 7615 uses a 760 Lite receiver but a relatively easy job.

I am not familiar with the 7615. but rem has had issues in the past with punch pins impacting the bolt assembly. if the pin is to low it can contact the mag.
look to see if you have unusual marks on your mag.
like I said I am unfamiliar with the 7615. good luck.
